Description
Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Operations Area Coordinator is accountable for the assignment, execution, and completion of work by Shift Supervisors and craftworkers. Accountable for the safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of station processes to meet load requirements of System Control. Accountable for providing leadership to direct reports such that they have information and training required to perform the work as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for integrating long term work effort with Capital Asset Management and Plant Management personnel to accomplish best practice initiatives of the corporation.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and counseling to direct reports regarding job performance. Conducts annual performance appraisals in a timely manner. Ensures direct reports receive training to meet or improve their job performance. Keeps employees informed of work requirements, business conditions, company policies and other factors that impact their work performance and work environment. Analyzes and resolves work problems and grievances to create a productive and positive work climate.
  • Work Scheduling Coordination - Coordinates maintenance activities through the Daily Work Schedule and Long-Range Schedule meetings according to the station's Work Practice Procedures.
  • Ensures equipment is secured as scheduled according to the station's Clearance Permit System so maintenance work can be completed in a timely manner.
  • System Control Coordination - Communicates timely information and works closely with System Control concerning the availability and status of all station systems to meet load requirements. Knowledgeable of System Control needs and takes a leadership role in expediting necessary resources because of emergency or load curtailing situations. Shares in after-hour and station call responsibility.
  • Daily Operation - Coordinates the safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of station processes while meeting the load requirements of System Control cost effectively. Ensures consistent, on-going monitoring of equipment conditions and identifying problems. Initiates corrective action as appropriate.
  • Responsible for daily plant operations and maintenance activities including planning and scheduling of routine, corrective, preventive, and hot-list maintenance. Provides work planning and execution in response to forced outages. Maintain the Work Order Process. Maintains knowledge of plant and industry technology developments and equipment issues.
  • Manages root cause failure analysis. Provides plant performance reporting, monitoring, and testing.
  • Evaluates and selects supporting contracted services as needed.
  • Coordinates and executes field projects. Coordinates plant loss control and emergency response activities.
  • Coordinates outage discovery work with Asset Management and Maintenance teams.

Requirements
  • Associate degree in related field or equivalent work experience and knowledge required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five years of technical experience or equivalent academic training.
  • Two years of experience in a supervisor role required.
  • Able to use Word, ADOBE, and SharePoint in support of responsibilities.
  • Able to identify and organize internal & external resources in support of completing work assignments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines.
  • Demonstrated level of professionalism and positive attitude.
  • Ability to exercise flexibility to work effectively in a changing environment.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems.

Internal Relationships
  • Works with System Control on reliable operation of units and timely communication.
  • Provides Department Personnel guidance and direction relating to personal goals in support of strategic goals.
  • Works with other Station Departments on a collaborative work environment, problem-solving and contingency planning.

Working Conditions
  • Usual Office conditions apply to this position.

FLSA Evaluation
This position meets the administrative exemption requirements of the FLSA regulations. The position met the salary requirement of receiving a predetermined salary which is not subject to reduction because of variations in quantity of work and is at least $23,660 annually; has the primary duty of performing office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employer's customers; and exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matter of significance.
