THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON BID AWARD

 

The Operational Psychologist shall develop, plan, and initiate resiliency programs for preventing and treating behavioral health issues to support all aspects of GA operator readiness and resilience, to include working with operators and their families regarding family life and readiness issues.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct, administer, and interpret a full spectrum of psychological assessment tools and consult with command personnel.
  • Manage relevant process improvement, program validation, and related research.
  • Develop and manage appropriate personnel selection records and filing systems
  • Manage referrals and disposition of referrals for behavioral healthcare.
  • Provide professional development and awareness education to leadership and Guardian Angel (GA) operators as requested.
  • Function as liaison between and Guardian Angel (GA) operators and base/community helping professionals/agencies.
  • Support the assessment and selection of incoming personnel and provide feedback to unit leadership on suitability of personnel to serve within certain positions as required.
  • Provide technical expertise, consultation, and direct support in the areas of assessment and selection of personnel, operational support, human performance enhancement, and the provision of clinical services to unit members.
  • Maintain credentialing requirements in good standing at a local Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Conduct baseline and post-event neuropsychological screening and collect/analyze data and monitor trends in psychological health as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Philosophy or Psychology Doctor degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychologist Association (APA) approved psychology program (or a program acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army) 
  • Completed an APA-approved internship/residency in clinical psychology (or an internship/residency acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army).
  • Valid state license to practice psychology.
  • Minimum two (2) years' post-doctoral experience within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of psychology in the area of clinical psychology, preferably in a Government setting such as a DoD or Department of Veterans Affairs Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with elite athletes within the military Special Operation Forces (SOF) community, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), or professional sports.
  • Possess and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding the delivery of clinical psychology programs.
  • Experience working with physicians providing medical psychological services is required.
  • Must have experience and training in the assessment and treatment of alcohol and substance abuse conditions, domestic violence, child abuse, post-traumatic stress, mood and anxiety conditions, and family/marital issues.
  • Training in critical incident/stress trauma interventions and possess or be willing to obtain Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) certification through the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency and will keep current on all mission debriefings.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
