An Operating Room/Surgical RN role in Bradenton, FL is now available through Adecco Medical and Science. In this role, you will assume the responsibility for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating nursing care to patients in the perioperative environment, including interventions that assist the patient in a conscious or unconscious state. The Operating Room Nurse assists the surgeons they work with by managing much of the hands-on patient care before and after a surgical procedure. During an operation, they are present in the sterile environment as part of the surgical team. They may administer medications and monitor patients in the recovery room immediately after surgery. They could also serve as the point of contact between patients and their families and the surgeon and other doctors managing their care. In this capacity, an OR nurse is likely to educate patients and explain complex procedures to lay people in plain language. They also commonly bring the questions and concerns of patients and families to the care team to ensure responsive care.
This is a 6-month contract-hire position. The pay range for this role is $35.00-45.00/hr. depending on your level of experience.
JOB ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Performs comprehensive assessment of patient's clinical condition and psycho-social needs inclusive of caregiver needs during the perioperative period.
· Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; takes appropriate action and documents.
· Demonstrates knowledge of drugs, actions, and side effects of medications administered.
· Provides patient with explanations and verbal reassurances as appropriate.
· Communicates clearly and concisely, assessment and reassessment of the patient in charting and with notification of surgeon and/or anesthesiologist as necessary; collaborates with all other health-care personnel and physicians in the delivery of coordinated patient care.
· Provides patient with explanations and verbal reassurances as appropriate.
· Assesses patient's physical and emotional response(s) to treatment(s); observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate action, and documents interventions and response to interventions.
· Educates patient/caregiver regarding the perioperative experience.
· Coordinates and supervises teaching and education to the patient and caregiver.
· Implements a plan of care safely and effectively; provides a safe environment.
· Maintains clinical skill competencies appropriate to areas of specialty.
· Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, and side-effects.
· Communicates relevant information to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
· Consistently, accurately, and legibly completes documentation promptly.
· Prepares unit for subsequent patients.
· Counts narcotics at the beginning and end of all shifts with another RN per facility policy.
· Attends all mandatory in-services and required staff meetings.
· Recognizes own limitations seeks assistance and acquires sufficient information necessary to function effectively in the assigned setting.
· Integrates cost-effective measures into practice.
· Participates in unit based CQI programs as assigned.
· Provides comprehensive care according to patient's age and stage of growth and development: Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and/or Geriatric.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: OPERATING ROOM
• Ensures patient readiness for surgery including, but not limited to, NPO status, medication administration, timeout protocol, and chart completeness
• Implements the plan of care safely and effectively and provides a safe environment, including, but not limited to:
o Positioning patient safely, padding bony prominence and ensuring respiratory and circulatory protection.
o Ensuring correct prepping and draping procedures.
o Ensuring asepsis during all procedures. Opens and presents sterile items to sterile field aseptically; ensures supplies are not expired.
o Accounting for all sponges, needles, and sharps, during and after the procedures and documenting appropriately.
• Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning O.R. suites before, between, and after cases.
• Accurately records, labels, and handles specimens.
• Can perform all duties of a circulating room nurse.
• Gives thorough report of patient's intra-operative condition to PACU nurse.
• Collaborates with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient turn-around time between each procedure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PREOP/PACU NURSE

• Utilize advanced assessment skills to identify patient care problems, formulate patient care plans.
• Perform initial preoperative assessment, develop a plan of care, and explain the subsequent phases of surgery.
• Provide comfort measures and psychological support to the patient and family members.
• Demonstrate proficiency in caring for patients who have received various types of anesthesia or conscious sedation.
• Administer medications by direct intravenous and other routes as directed.
• Provide patient education.

Pay Details: $35.00 to $45.00 per hour
