• General Information
  • Beds:
    • 12 OR's - 9 operated Mon-Fri 0700-1500, tapering down throughout the day
    • 20 Pre-Op bays
    • 14 PACU bays
  • Required Experience: 2 years of OR - Level 1 or 2 trauma experience
  • Accept First-time Traveler? No - email for approval
  • Travel Distance Requirement: Travelers must live > 100 miles away from the facility
  • Permanent Staff Returning as Traveler: Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
• Patient Types:
  • Surgical (Urology/Neuro/Ortho/Robotic/General/Podiatry/ENT)
  • Pre and Post Recovery (Phase I and Phase II) with some ICU level care needed.
• Patient Ratios:
  • OR 1:1
  • Pre-Op 1:2
  • PACU Phase I - 1:1 or 1:2, based on acuity
  • PACU Phase II - 1:2-3
• Required Certifications:
  • RN: BLS, ACLS
• Required Education:
  • Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
• Skills Required:
  • RN:
    • Ortho-Trauma (ORIF, Ex fix, Amputations), Neuro (Craniotomy, Spinal), General, Robotics (Davinci XI)
    • Surgical experience in a tertiary care center
    • Pre-Op/PACU (including ICU skillset in PACU)
• Support on the Unit:
  • Surgery
  • RN/First Assist/Surg Tech

  • Scheduler

• Charting System/Equipment:
  • EPIC - please let CRT know if the traveler does not have EPIC experience so they can ask for approval

• Floating:
  • RN: As needed (PreOp/PACU/Floor) - if floated out of peri-op services, will be as helping hands
• Orientation:
  • All specialties: 1 week
• Scheduling:
  • Weekend rotation - If position is posted as weekend only and on call, every 3rd weekend
• Call:
  • Ideally, one overnight per week 7p-7a and every 3rd weekend Fri 1500 - Mon 0700, subject to change as department needs change
  • Sleep room will be in Pre-Op/PACU area as it will be closed
  • Couches in the break room
  • 15 min response time
• Holiday Expectations: 2/4 major holidays
• Approval of Time Off? Reach out to Manager for approval. May volunteer low census without pay.
