Open Rank in Sport Management (Tenure-Track)
College of Human Sciences & Education
The College of Human Sciences & Education and School of Kinesiology announces the availability of a tenure-track Open Rank faculty position in Sport Management. The candidate will have a commitment to scholarly productivity, teaching excellence, and service to the profession. The appointment will be effective August, 2024.

Qualifications (All Ranks): Earned Ph.D. in Sport Management, Kinesiology, or a related field to Sport Analytics (e.g., Economics, Applied Statistics, Mathematics, Computer or Data Science) or Marketing. ABD applicants will be considered. Candidates for the Open Rank must provide evidence of scholarly activity that demonstrates success or a strong potential for publications in peer-reviewed journals, college/university teaching (e.g., graduate and undergraduate), and external funding for scholarly activities. Candidates should also demonstrate a willingness to be involved in service to the University and the profession.
Assistant Professor Rank: The candidate must provide evidence of scholarly activity that demonstrates a strong potential for publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, potential for and/or previous success securing external funding for scholarly activities, competence in teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in their area of expertise, and involvement in service to the University and the profession. Candidates with post doc experience are preferred.
Associate Professor Rank: Candidates applying for the Associate Professor rank must meet the requirements for Assistant Professor and have a minimum Assistant Professor rank and qualifications for promotion to Associate Professor. Candidates must provide evidence of a productive scholarly record including scholarly publications in top-tier journals and an externally funded research program that will complement the current faculty members in Sport Management.
Professor Rank: Candidates applying for the Professor rank must have a minimum Associate Professor rank and qualifications for promotion to Professor rank. Candidates must provide evidence of sustained excellence in scholarly activity in nationally and internationally recognized top-tier peer-reviewed journals, excellent track record of external funding for scholarly activities, extensive teaching experience in higher education, including undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise, as well as successful mentoring of graduate students as the primary mentor. Preferred candidates will have prior experience in leadership roles, experience working with diverse student populations, and involvement in University service.
Description
The preferred area of expertise of this faculty position is sport analytics (i.e., performance and/or business) or sport marketing. Preference will be given to candidates proficient in statistics and data science collection. This includes modeling and statistical learning. Moreover, preferred candidates should potentially understand statistical computing approaches like R, Python, Tableau, SQL, Excel, and/or other useful computational and data scraping approaches/techniques.
Responsibilities: (1) Develop, or continue, a research program in Sport Management; (2) teach undergraduate sport administration or graduate Sport Management courses (both face-to-face and online are possible); (3) advise graduate students and direct doctoral dissertations; (4) seek external support for scholarly activities; and (5) participate in the development of the Sport Management program and serve on School, College, University, and Profession-based committees as appropriate. The LSU Sport Management faculty is an active group whose work appears in notable Sport Management outlets such as the Journal of Sport Management and Sport Management Review and other discipline-related interdisciplinary outlets viewed as top rated journals. Moreover, our faculty includes multiple NASSM Fellows.
