Open Rank Criminal Justice Faculty

Mount Marty University is pleased to advertise for an Open RankCriminal Justice position. We encourage applications from those new to academia as well as those who are seasoned academics looking for a change. This person will be responsible for offering, overseeing, and developing our Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Criminal Justice. This is a strong, popular program that also offers a minor. The BA is offered at both our Yankton and Watertown, South Dakota locations.

Responsibilities of the position include: (1) teach the breadth of courses in the program – 12 credit hours per semester; (2) coordinate the schedule through the Registrar’s Office; (3) do academic advising; (4) conduct program assessment; and (5) to shape the Criminal Justice program in an interdisciplinary way with more emphasis on criminology (i.e., the nature/definition, extent, cause and control of crime).

While teaching will be the primary focus, service to the university and surrounding community, and a commitment to scholarly activity will also be expected. The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related field, have teaching experience, and demonstrate evidence of scholarly activity. Applicants who are ABD, or masters prepared with impressive industry experience, will also be considered. The ideal candidate will be an energetic leader with a vision for how to develop the Criminal Justice program. The ideal candidate must be committed in principle and practice to Mount Marty University’s mission as a Catholic and Benedictine university rooted in the Liberal Arts.

Located on a beautifully maintained 80-acre campus along the bluffs of the Missouri River, Mount Marty’s hallmark is outstanding teaching, small class size, and a strong commitment to the liberal arts in the Catholic Benedictine tradition. The campus is minutes away from Lewis & Clark Lake, one of South Dakota’s most popular recreation areas, and is within driving distance of the Twin Cities, Kansas City, and Omaha.
