Job Description

The Kentucky Science Center is seeking a seasonal Onsite Camp Behavior & Inclusion Lead for our Summer 2024 School's Out Science Camp program. As a Camp Behavior & Inclusion Lead you will play a vital role in the day-to-day management of camp.  As a Camp Behavior & Inclusion Lead you will work closely with the Manager of Camps & Family Programs & Camps and Family Programs Coordinator to ensure the daily coordination of the School's Out Science Camp program. The Camp Behavior and Inclusion Specialist is responsible for monitoring the emotional wellbeing of all campers. This person will act as a resource for staff when challenges arise at camp that they need assistance handling. This role facilitates extra 1 on 1 care throughout the day for a caseload of campers. You will also assist in crisis management as needed.

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the Manager of Camps & Family Programs & Camps and Family Programs Coordinator for the management of all Onsite Camp operations including, but not limited to, check-in/check-out, daily camp schedule implementation, etc.
  • Promote positive and proactive behavior management among campers and staff
  • Assist with the organization/preparation of and participation in camp activities
  • Guide campers in their personal growth and skill development
  • Collaborate with all camp staff members to help cultivate a positive camp culture.
  • Manage day-to-day logistics such as check in, check out, rosters, camper information.
  • Be a point person for the health and safety of campers by evaluating and treating minor incidents, contacting parents/caregivers if needed, maintaining updated health records for staff and campers, and stocking of first aid kits.
  • Assist Teachers and Counselors on day-to-day camp logistics and procedure and support to staff in orientation and training.
  • Provide support to teachers and counselors in preparation and for the duration of summer camp programming.

 

 

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Must be available to work a full-day camp setting, five 8-hour days (varying shift times between 7 AM-5 PM) a week from May 6-August 2, 2024
  • It is preferred that the Camp Behavior & Inclusion Lead commit to all 10 weeks of camp and commit to a FULL WEEK of work (Mon-Fri).
  • If selected, Camp Behavior & Inclusion Lead is required to attend a 2 days of orientation May 18 & May 19, 2024
  • It is preferred that the applicant be in pursuit of a degree or has significant related experience in the fields of social work, psychology, or special education.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 1-2 years of previous experience working with elementary-age children of varying backgrounds and abilities is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills with an enthusiastic and flexible attitude.
  • Experience in implementing positive behavior management strategies
  • Must have the ability to work in a physically fast paced environment that includes navigating multiple floors of exhibit spaces and manipulating a variety of supplies throughout the shift.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have an enthusiasm for working with children, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and react calmly under pressure.
  • Applicant must be comfortable communicating with parents/caregivers daily.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others, especially children of all ages.

Areas of Concentration:        

Front Line- Interacting with Campers/Ensuring Camper Physical & Emotional Safety (50%)

Front Line- Communicating with Camp Parents/Caregivers (30%)

Preparation/Evaluation- Day to Day Logistics of Camp Management/Evaluation/Data Analysis- (20%)

Compensation and Benefits       

  • Seasonal Part-Time working up to 40 hours per week.
