The Math Instructor at Aspen University is a key academic figure, dedicated to guiding and supporting students through their mathematical studies. This individual acts as both a facilitator and mentor, playing a pivotal role in delivering a high-quality educational experience that aligns with Aspen University's goals. The instructor is responsible for fostering an engaging, supportive, and interactive online learning environment, utilizing innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance the mathematical understanding and success of each student.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Learning Facilitation: Teach assigned courses within the appropriate programs as determined by the School Dean or designated authority. This includes the use of Web 2.0 tools to create a learning experience that promotes achievement, community, and personalization.
- Student Interaction and Support: Maintain regular and substantive interaction with students. This involves providing quality scholarly feedback, guidance, supportive interactions, and performance assessments that are professional, fair, and timely. All grading should be completed per university policies.
- Academic Experience Enhancement: Proactively and consistently initiate and contribute meaningful content to course discussion threads to stimulate academic experiences and ensure discussions remain on topic.
- Student Retention and Persistence: Initiate and maintain efforts aimed at helping students complete their courses by engaging in retention and persistence strategies.
- Course and University Development: Actively participate in course revisions and university governance as requested and contribute to the continuous improvement of online education at Aspen through reflections, observations, and recommendations.
- Compliance and Professional Development: Complete a faculty file, including official transcripts to meet accreditation requirements, and participate in faculty training and surveys as appropriate. Protect the confidentiality of student records following the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Remain current in personal expertise and service areas and maintain professional knowledge in using Aspen's Learning Management System (LMS), academic offerings, best practices for online education delivery, and academic mentoring and coaching.
- Communication and Feedback: Communicate with Aspen University Deans and leadership on course delivery improvements as needed, ensuring a collaborative approach to enhancing the educational experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics (Preferred), or Master’s degree or higher with 18 credit hours of study in Mathematics.
- 3 years of online teaching experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google’s G-Suite, BrightSpace/D2L, ProjectConcert, BaseCamp, and Tableau.
