Nursing - Oncology

8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Provides exceptional customer service to all Oncology patients, physicians, provider offices, pharmacies and insurance companies throughout the ordering, benefit, and precertification verification process. Assesses the patient's needs, coordinates the plan of care, implements orders and evaluates the nursing care provided to oncology patients in a physician practice. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with physicians and hospital staff within hospital system, educating them about Oncology Financial Navigator services and encouraging early referral of newly diagnosed, uninsured or under-insured cancer patients. Verifies benefits, precertification requirements, and confirms that insurance will cover the scheduled service(s).
Notes when coverage is not provided by insurance or high deductible/co-pays and pursues other avenues of patient assistance. While assisting the patients through drug companies, works through financial paperwork, medication ordering, approval, medication delivery coordination and patient scheduling. Works with insurance companies on "white bag" medications and approvals of these medications. This will include: Obtaining complete orders, finding a pharmacy to provide the medication, obtaining insurance approval with constant follow up, follow through with the patient on ordering the medication, and coordination of delivery with pharmacy and scheduling of the patient. May also assist with help for transportation, housing, hospital/medical bills, etc.
Requirements
Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with current license from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing. Experience in the medical office setting, or setting dealing with insurance related issues, of at least six months required; one year experience preferred. Experience and/or working knowledge of the pre-certification process including, but not limited to, an understanding of the medical records/documentation process to obtain precertification. Experience and/or education on CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 codes preferred. Education or experience may be substituted for any or all of the skills listed (subject to approval by the manager).
