We set high standards for customer service, quality, and keeping costs under control.- POSITION SUMMARYAn ONCOLOGY DATA SPECIALIST (ODS) is a certified specialist who analyzes, abstracts and codes demographic, patient and cancer related information, treatment and staging from the medical records on all cancer cases seen and/or diagnosed at East Alabama Medical Center and its affiliates. Ensures correct staging, coding, subsequent patient care evaluation, and survival reports are completed. Coordinates staff support for cancer conference. Demonstrates engagement through ongoing training and education on accrediting agencies. Facilitates dissemination of registry data. After an initial probationary period, the ODS is eligible with manager's approval to participate in a telecommuting work arrangement.
- POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- 2010 forward candidate must have obtained a minimum of an associate degree. Prior to 2010, associate degree not required but must have minimum two years full-time (24 months or 3,900 hours) or equivalent experience in the cancer registry field.
- 1-3 years of cancer registry experience.
- Current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification
- Bachelor's degree in health information or related field, clinical research, or nursing
- Ability to type 35 words per minute preferred.
- 3000 hours of experience plus two years of supervisory experience; oncology background
