Your Opportunity

Stantec seeks an adaptive and experienced Emergency Management Specialist to join, in an on-call capacity, our growing U.S. West Emergency Management and community resilience practice. The ideal candidate brings both a depth of experience in Emergency Management and a desire to maintain a level of professional flexibility that aligns with the expectations of an on-call position described in the responsibilities below. We are looking for a team member with a minimum of five years of experience, who has a demonstrated ability to provide services across all phases of Emergency Management (preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation) for public or private sector organizations. The ideal candidate would have experience in supporting operational and strategic planning, and capability and capacity building efforts including the development of response and recovery plans and the design and delivery of training and exercises. This opportunity places a high value on collaboration, delivery, and desire to grow. We are looking for a professional consultant with a strong working knowledge of the principles of Emergency Management and hazard mitigation. Work duties for this position will primarily be provided in a virtual environment, but some in-office collaboration is anticipated and, to facilitate team cohesion, the following are preferred locations for this position (Portland, OR; Bellevue, WA; Denver, CO).

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively integrate into project teams as a technical resource providing Emergency Management services to our clients including program assessment, plan development, training and exercise design and delivery, and other services as required. 
  • Work closely with project and task managers, as needed, to support development and delivery of client deliverables within defined budget and schedule.
  • Participate as an engaged and collaborative member of Stantec's Emergency Management and community resilience practice. 
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Proven track record of technical delivery of Emergency Management projects.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state Emergency Management laws and regulations, as well as best practice standards and guidance.
  • Highly effective in participating in teams and ability to effectively manage multiple task under the direction of a project manager.
  • Demonstrated ability to readily identify potential problems and develop effective solutions on a project.
  • Proven and demonstrated high quality technical writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license required.

Education and Experience 
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Planning or Emergency Management, or combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience performing Emergency Management and community resilience-related work for public and/or private sector organizations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key Emergency Management concepts including the National Incident Management System, the Incident Command System, and the Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community and infrastructure resilience and recovery planning, processes including hazard mitigation planning.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including rough terrain and inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Some travel may be required (approximately 20%), such as meeting attendance or workshops.

  • Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI
  • Min Pay Range: $88,000
  • Max Pay Range: $127,600
  • Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA
  • Min Pay Range: $45.38 Per Hour
  • Max Pay Range: $65.82 Per Hour
  • Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
