This position coordinates all functions of on the job training (OJT) for drivers and other trainers. This position will also ensure that all drivers will leave OJT with a positive impression of the company. This position requires a self-motivated and detail oriented individual. This person will have daily contact with terminal drivers. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively both written and verbal. They will also provide visibility to management in regards to training process oversight, issues, solutions, and data to track the performance of the OJT function. This candidate will be required to be on call at times.

Travel: Some travel will be required as needed

Some weekend work will be required. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned OJT center daily operation.
  • Terminal staffing, scheduling and disciplinary actions
  • Monthly scheduling of employees
  • Ensure that all new drivers receive the proper training in the field of loading and unloading Hazmat and non-hazmat products
  • Daily contact with the Training Center Manager on all new drivers and their training.  
  • Ensure that all new drivers receive the proper training experience.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on OJT training that includes all physical functions of driver training.
  • Classroom OJT training that includes all driver operation field training
  • Complete OJT training paperwork and compliance.
  • Daily terminal communication and feedback about drivers through the OJT tracker sent daily to the terminals 
  • Verifying all training equipment is in proper working order. 
  • Manage OJT centers daily operations and inventory 
  • Maintain and complete electronic driver training files for hiring terminals
  • All maintenance issues are handled by OJT Trainer Manager and then reported to the Training Center Manager (TCM) and the shop.
  • Manage OJT centers daily operations.
  • Training drivers on the Smith System program. Must be Smith System certified. 
  • Work with Manager of Systems Development and Training to create, refine and learn new training materials

     

Required Skills/Abilities/Experience: 

  • Some chemical bulk transportation industry experience
  • 2 or more years of training experience
  • 2 or more years of management experience
  • Current transportation market knowledge (understanding operating practices, structure, and management organization, keeping the classroom organized)
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Knowledge of DOT requirements
  • Experience with safety procedures
  • Working knowledge of Hazmat regulations and procedures
  • Able to use technology such as computers, laptops and handheld devices to access company and vendor provided systems. Working knowledge of Google products
  • Ability to learn and effectively use all company and vendor provided software systems. 

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required 
  • Some college, training certificate or degree in business or training preferred

  • The employee will regularly and repetitively be required to talk, hear, sit, type, reach and grasp in a typical office environment. This position will require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping or crouching and climbing a ladder.
  •  The employee may   occasionally lift and/or move items over 15 pounds such as hoses or other office equipment . 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Classroom, and outside in the elements, training is conducted during the rain, snow and in the heat.
