JOB DESCRIPTION
 POSITION TITLE: Problem-Solving Courts Staff PsychologistPAY GRADE: Grade 22BUSINESS UNIT: Office of the Chief Judge - Problem-Solving CourtsSalary CAP: $94,597POSITION CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt       Date Updated: 09/25/23Position Closes: Open until filledJOB SUMMARY:This is a full-time, limited duration position funded by Cook County Adult Redeploy Illinois (ARI) grant funded thru June 30, 2024 with a potential 12-month renewal if continuation of grant funds are awarded. The Office of the Chief Judge is the lead agency and is seeking a Staff Psychologist who will provide operational support to the Problem-Solving Courts operating at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building
OVERVIEW:The Problem-Solving Courts (PSC) Staff Psychologist will perform diagnostic mental health/co-occurring screenings and evaluations for adults referred to Criminal Division PSC programs located at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building. PSC mental health screening and evaluation may include examining health records, behavioral analysis, as well as the administration of psychological testing instruments and procedures triage and link eligible participants to the to appropriate PSC (i.e. drug court, mental health court, or veterans court). The PSC Staff Psychologist will work with Cook County Jail Staff to identify jail detainees who have recently received services in the mental health system; assist in linking these detainees with appropriate services inside the jail and referring eligible candidates to the PSC programs. The PSC Staff Psychologist will report directly to the Director of Problem Solving Courts with ultimate responsibility to the Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Essential Functions: With oversight from the Director of Problem Solving Courts, The PSC Staff Psychologist provides consultations with staff regarding psychological issues for participants and by performing the following duties:
  • In-person, on-site, Monday-Friday 8:30AM-4:30PM at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building 
  • Perform mental health/co-occurring disorder screenings and evaluations, in accordance with the DSM-5/DSM-5-TR, for adults referred to Criminal Division Problem Solving Court programs located at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building
  • Attend (W)RAP Drug Court team staffings daily, as well as other Problem-Solving Court staffings, as  needed
  • Provides psychological testing of Problem-Solving Court participants, as well as those considered for a Problem-Solving Court (personality, cognitive, and neurocognitive)
  • Preparation and delivery for the court of formal written reports and clinical summaries relevant to diagnoses, opinions, and recommendations
  • Provides individual, group, and trauma-informed therapeutic services to Problem-Solving Court participants
  • Create personalized treatment plans with Problem-Solving Court participants
  • Provides crisis intervention to Problem-Solving Court participants when needed
  • Provide psychoeducational groups based on evidence-based practices to participants that include anger management, parenting skills, others as assigned/needed
  • Examine health records, if needed
  • Identify detainees who have received services in the mental health system and assist in linking these detainees with appropriate services inside the jail and referring eligible candidates to the Problem-Solving Court programs
  • Provides consultations to staff regarding clinical issues involving participants
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and clients
  • Participation in the department’s and the court’s training programs and initiatives as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education:Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree from an accredited university is required.
License: Candidates must be licensed to work as a Clinical Psychologist in Illinois
Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in the human services field required; forensic training and/or postdoctoral fellowship in forensic psychology is strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge/experience in the field of substance abuse treatment and trauma-informed care
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the administration and interpretation of psychological assessments
  • Ability to make accurate DSM-5/DSM-5TR diagnoses
  • Comprehensive knowledge of best clinical practices and treatment
  • Demonstrates competent written and verbal communications while having the ability to work independently
  • A minimum of 1 year of postdoctoral clinical experience and licensed in Illinois as a Clinical Psychologist
