POSITION SUMMARY:
The Occupational Therapist shall be a trained health care professional that uses purposeful, goal directed activities and task analysis to enable children with a disability to benefit from their Individualized Education Programs (IEP's). Occupational Therapists, in the school setting, look at certain skills issues which may interfere with a child's educational performance such as hand function, oral motor function, visual motor and perceptual skills, sensory awareness/processing, gross motor skills, self-care and pre-vocational tasks. These areas can be addressed through a variety of intervention strategies, which may include direct therapy with the child, consultation with the teacher, modification of the environment, provision of adaptive equipment, and staff training. The Occupational Therapist is charged with providing research-based interventions to assure students are receiving the most up to date and proven techniques in their field.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery. Evaluate the student's ability and formulates the student's occupational profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews. Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report, which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention. Develop occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
Provide targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment. Consult with the school-based team to achieve student outcomes. Adapt and modify the environment including assistive technology and training instructional staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible. Educate student, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of occupation as well as health maintenance and safety. Monitor and reassess the effects of occupational therapy intervention and the need to continue, modify, or discontinue intervention. Document occupational therapy services to ensure accountability of service provision and to meet standards for reimbursement of services as appropriate.
 
Teach, monitor, and collaborate with educational personnel, community agencies, parents, and students to increase understanding of the student's occupational performance. Provide continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, parents, and community based service providers.
 
Participate in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet Colorado Licensure requirements. Use professional literature; evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions. Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice. Notify the Principal and Director of Student Services of any failure to implement the requirements of assigned students IEP.  Maintain student records and Medicaid documentation.
 
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
 
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of non-occupational therapy support personnel.
Conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to interview participation, training/development, assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems.
 
BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
Manage and maintain inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments.
Project needs for budget planning.
Maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
Review occupational therapy services for improvements and make changes as needed to ensure quality of services.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: 
Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy.
NBCOT Certification (National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy).
American Occupational Therapy Association membership.
English fluency will be determined through the interview process and licensure.
 
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Colorado Driver's License.
Valid Occupational Therapist license through Department of Regulatory Agency.
Valid Colorado Special Services License with Occupational Therapist endorsement.
Hold an active National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid program) account and provide NPI and Health First Colorado account information to the District Medicaid Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds.
Occasional lifting of up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds.
Frequent sitting, bending, walking, and standing.
Occasional stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Mostly clean and comfortable.
 
REPORTS TO:
Principal(s) and Executive Director of Student Services
 
LOCATION:
Itinerant (2 - 5 sites).
 
SALARY:
Salary placement from $51,140 - $98,548 based upon education, experience and Master Agreement. Current Salary Schedule posted at Salary Schedules - Englewood Schools.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New hires or rehires will be responsible for the fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
