POSITION OVERVIEW:
NDLON is seeking an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Project Coordinator for a new project. NDLON will be partnering with member organizations using a Train-the-Trainer model to build a cohort of trained organizers and day laborers in the area of occupational safety and health. The project is funded by the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with the goal of strengthening and expanding existing health and safety education programs for migrant day laborers. The OSH Project Coordinator is a full-time position that reports to NDLON’s National Health and Safety Program Coordinator. They will work directly with each of the member organizations to provide leadership, training, technical assistance and assure the usefulness of appropriate worker health and safety training. Partner organizations are located nationwide (travel will be required).
RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE:
- Facilitate regional and national collaboration by coordinating regular telephone and video conference meetings among the partners to provide further support and facilitate sharing of experiences and best practices.
- Conduct needs assessments of safety and health hazards impacting day laborers and partners’ experience and capacity with regards to safety and health training.
- Develop and compile new and existing safety and health materials and curricula for day laborers and employers.
- Facilitate Train-the-Trainer sessions with partners.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to partners to ensure the implementation of second-tier trainings in each of the partners’ regions.
- Develop and maintain evaluation tools to assess the impact of the trainings and the overall progress of the project.
- Develop and submit regular programmatic reports to funders
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in worker or community organizing; or
- Experience with day laborers and/or the immigrant community; or
- Experience with participatory adult education methods like activities to build critical thinking skills
- Experience in occupational safety and health training with low wage workers preferred
- Ability to develop and adapt training materials
- Excellent communication skills – writing, speaking and training facilitation
- Ability to work well with a team
- Demonstrated commitment to social/economic justice
- Ability and willingness to travel
- Bilingual (ability to speak and write in English and Spanish) – required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary placement for this position will be based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description.
