Obstetrics Technician

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the OBTechnician assists the other medical professionals such as doctors, nurses andmidwives during labor and delivery. The OB Technician preps and cleans thedelivery room and assists in a variety of procedures involved in the birthingprocess and aftercare of mom and baby.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for providing assistance to nursing staff
• Performs patient care activities as delegated by an RN
• Maintains patient care supplies
• Maintains and prepares the operating room for surgicalprocedures. Obtains and sets up sterile field with appropriate instruments,supplies, and equipment
• Performs under the direction of the physician duringoperative procedures to prepare the patient's abdomen, drape the sterile field,and pass instrumentation
• Performs appropriate instrument counts with RN circulator orOBGYN
• Follows aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies
• Prepares instruments for terminal sterilization after use
• Performs patient support duties under the direction of a RN,which may include, but are not limited to: performs venipuncture and starts IVs; obtains vital signs, weights,and/or blood glucose as appropriate per state/contract/regulation
• Collects, labels, and transports specimens
• Assists with ambulation, toileting, and/or bathing ofpatient
• Inserts foley catheter and monitors input/output
• Assists with newborn screening
• Provides oral feeding and diapering to babies, asappropriate
• Documents all care provided to the patient in the medicalrecord
• Prepares the delivery table and attends deliveries
• Communicates patient needs to nursing staff
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (RMA orCMA), Scrub Tech training, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or LicensedPractical Nurse (LPN) required
• NRP certification preferred and may be required per contract
• State license or certification as required by stateregulations or contract specifications
• One (1) year of experience as an OB technician preferred
• Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
• Participation and completion of Maxim's Competency programwhen applicable
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
• Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
• Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
• Computer proficiency required
• Must be at least 18 years of age
