SUMMARY
The OB/GYN Ultrasound Technician is a member of the clinic healthcare team and works to provide timely and accurate on-site ultrasounds. The Ultrasound Technician is responsible for maintaining ultrasound equipment, supplies, records, and procedures in accordance with OSHA, CLIA, and other applicable standards. The Ultrasound Technician is also expected to work with the Medical and Laboratory Directors to improve the quality and efficiency of lab services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs obstetric and gynecological ultrasounds.
- Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedure.
- Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
- Selects and operates equipment as needed to perform required exams.
- Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
- Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
- Direct patients to rooms and obtain vitals of patients.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
- Minimum Education: Associate's Degree
- Minimum Experience: 2 - 3 years in related field
- Required Certification: RDMS; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Required Courses: Accredited program in Ultrasound Technology
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software and electronic medical records software.

- Essential Physical Requirements: Able to perform manual effort in positioning, lifting, moving patients, utilizing proper body mechanics. Duties may involve extensive walking and standing.
- Essential Sensory Requirements: Able to transpose/communicate essential information from one source to another and respond to customer needs.
- Exposure to Hazards: Potential for exposure to Covid and other infectious diseases. Potential for musculoskeletal injuries due to moving, lifting patient and/or equipment. Potential for injuries due to sharp objects, complex equipment, potential for exposure to infectious process. Subject to stress, frustration and fatigue.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Ultrasound Technician reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Women’s Health Director.
EVALUATION
The evaluation of work performance is ongoing, and is performed by the Women’s Health Director. It includes the specific responsibilities of this position description as well as employee attitude and general working behavior. Formal evaluation is normally performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the employee or supervisor.
SALARY
The salary for all positions are negotiated between the individual and the supervisor using the approved salary scale of the organization as a basis.
