Job Description
The Nutritionist serves as part of the SNAP Education Program. The programs’ objective is to improve the nutrition and well-being of low-income community populations across the State, in locations including, but not limited to: Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, Bridgeport, New London, and more. Under supervision, the Nutritionist will improve the nutritional well-being of our community members, delivering direct nutrition education services at a variety of community sites and settings, in-person and virtually through virtual platforms. Conducts Nutrition train-the-trainer(s) for HHC staff and other community health workers working in maternal and child programs across the State. Serving as a healthcare professional, provides educational and nutritional guides to help clients maintain a healthy lifestyle, meeting with patients and identifying health goals, participating in commissions and coalitions, thus, working collaboratively to coordinate, conduct, and promote SNAP Education activities. Conducts nutrition and healthy-living presentations for staff and media partners. Assists in the development and growth of nutritional programs. Supports the management of the program’s social media platforms. Maintains records of activities and data entry, maintaining analytical reports and systems. Performs additional duties as required.
The hours of work are 35 per week. Required to travel to site locations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Nutrition Education for culturally appropriate market
- Knowledge of technical platforms (Microsoft Suite: Excel, Teams, etc.; social media)
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to supervise staff
- Ability to learn and disseminate technical information about nutrition benefits and healthy habits
- Ability to travel statewide as required
- Ability to work flexible work hours including pre-scheduled nights and weekends
- Strong organizational skills
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences, Health Education, or a closely related field.
Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
§ 1 Year of work experience in nutrition or related field
§ Bilingual - Spanish
