PASCO SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 1EMPLOYEE SERVICES 1215 WEST LEWIS ST.PASCO, WASHINGTON 99301PHONE (509) 543-6700 FAX (509) 546-2685 OPEN: February 29, 2024 CLOSE: March 6, 2024 or until filled POSITION: NUTRITION SERVICES - Assistant Unit ManagerColumbia River Elementary EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately SALARY: $17.29 - $17.64 per hour Benefits https://www.psd1.org/departments/employee-services/benefits SCHEDULE: 7 hours per day, Monday through Friday 180 day work year QUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED: (Qualifications which are essential to the position)High School Diploma or equivalentOne year experience in quantity cookingVocational or technical training in institutional cooking may substitute for experienceKeep and maintain accurate records, understand and carry out oral and written instructionsProven leadership and managerial skills to include ability to provide direction to others, abilityto train others and share knowledgeAbility to work closely and amiable with staff and studentsMust be punctual and demonstrate a good work attendance recordMust be available for equipment training and preparation to open new schoolServSafe Certified, completed a 10 hour food safety and sanitation classValid State of Washington Department of Health Food Worker's CardSkills to perform basic arithmetic calculations, operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment, adjust recipes to various quantity demands, and use standard office equipmentKnowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes, sanitation principles and nutritional requirementsAbility to lift and move 40 poundsAbility to stand and walk for prolonged periods, significant physical abilities include: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing conversations and other sounds (potential hazards), visual acuity/depth perception and visual accommodationUnderstand and carry out oral and written instructions. Demonstrated exemplary customer service and responsivenessAbility to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, students and patronsAbility to follow safe work practices and proceduresAbility to establish and maintain professional, cooperative working relationshipsMust work within designated bounds of authority and confidentialityDemonstrated punctuality and an excellent work attendance recordAbility to cashier QUALIFICATIONS:DESIRED: (Qualifications that are not required but would be useful to the position)Bilingual English/SpanishPrevious Assistant Unit Manager experience preferred*Ability to cook food in a steam kettle GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:The Assistant Unit Manager will assist and guide in the preparing, cooking, baking, and distributing of food for consumption by students and school personnel, under the general supervision of the Unit Manager.

This person will be responsible for maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition that meets health inspection requirements. SPECIFIC DUTIES:Assist in directing assigned personnel, student helpers, substitutes, and/or volunteers to perform their functions in a safe and efficient mannerAssist in maintaining an accurate and sufficient level of inventory of food, condiments, and kitchen suppliesAssist in preparing documentation, in an approved format, the daily operation of food preparation, serving quantities, substitutions, and wasteAssist and participate in the daily cleaning of all areas of the kitchen, kitchen equipment and dining areaAttend monthly meetings in absence of Unit ManagerAssist supervisors in evaluating kitchen personnel, including substitute helpersAssist in preparation, serving, storage and disposal of food; daily clean dining, kitchen areas and equipment for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions and to comply with health regulationsAssist with submitting year-end reportsPrepare food and beverage items to meet mandated nutritional and projected meal requirementsCook and bake foods, pre-made or from scratch, for meeting projected meal requirementsEstimate food preparation amounts, store and/or dispose of unused food to meet meal and waste requirementsOpen cans, apportion contents, wash and prepare vegetables for cookingInspects food and/or supplies for the purpose or verifying quantity and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirementsWash dishes, utensils, pots and pans, clean tables and chairs and food service area; replenish food and condiment containers for maintaining adequate quantities and security of itemsMay set up and sell a la carte and bag lunchesMay lead work of students and/or volunteers by assisting them to perform their functions in a safe and efficient mannerReport equipment malfunctions to maintain a safe working environmentRespond to inquiries of students, staff, and/or public for providing information regarding food itemsAssist with year-end closure by cleaning up stock inventories, requesting food and supplies for the next yearPrepare documentation for providing written support and/or conveying information *Perform other related duties as assigned by the Unit Manager or supervisory staff Letters and applications received after closing date will only be accepted and screened if the position remains unfilled.
