Your Specific Responsibilities

This is a professional nursing position with the Florida Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier County), located in Naples in the Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Division (CDCP). This position is responsible for providing specialized public health nursing services for Family Planning (FP), Refugee and Immigration clients. The incumbent is expected to independently perform assigned duties in a professional and highly competent manner to ensure clinical excellence and maximum program outcomes. This position is classified as sensitive. Handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following DOH, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Information Security and privacy policies. Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information. Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy and integrity of protected health information. Refers and utilizes DOH 50-10-05. Tuberculosis (TB) testing and certain immunizations may be required. This position reports to the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse position. 

  • Provides assistance in the area of Refugee Health and Immigration. This position is responsible to register eligible Refugees. Provide the initial intake, order labs, give initial vaccines, give test results and subsequent vaccines. Independently prepare the 1-693 Immigration form, assist provider and give completed form to client in a signed and sealed envelope.

 

  • Provides contraceptive services to clients attending DOH-Collier County clinics including review of methods, method starts, supply and pregnancy testing. Consulting with Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) as necessary.

 

  • Initiates follow-up on abnormal lab results for FP clients, provides case management with initial contacts, reminders and coordination of care for those receiving colposcopy and biopsy. Monitors medications in the medication room, maintains adequate inventory and collaborates with CDCP staff for ordering medications as needed.

 

  • Provides Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) counseling, testing, and preventive education following Department of Health (DOH) guidelines and triage clients who walk in. Works with APRN assisting with care, examination and treatment of clients. Administers medications in the clinic under clinician's orders and/or following DOH and Title X guidelines.  Evaluates individual needs and makes appropriate referrals.

 

  • Coordinates the Sterilization program, making sure that the clients have been seen in the Family Planning clinic, reviewed all Title X requirements and maintains the sterilization list.

 

  • Coordinates the Informational and Educational (I&E) advisory committee, including preparing and submitting all required reports for Title X.

  • Ability to follow office procedures & practices.
  • Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous & effective manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally & in writing.
  • Ability to understand, interpret & apply applicable rules, regulations, policies & procedure.
  • Ability to prioritize individual workload.
  • Ability to work indoors with occasional temperature changes.
  • Ability to assist in planning and conducting a variety of training activities.
  • Ability to administer prescribed medications.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to review data for accuracy & completeness.

Qualifications

Required

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27. 
  • American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • A minimum of one year full-time RN experience in hospital or an outpatient clinic.
  • Valid FL driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in performance of job duties.
  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

Preferred

  • Fluency in English/Spanish.
