Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Nursing Instructor is to professionally provide classroom, lab, and clinical instruction which promotes student success.
Salary: Commensurate with education and teaching experience according to Salary Schedule D1 ($45676-$71283) 9 months; ($14102 - $22047) 3 months; ($59778 - $93330) 12 months.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Central Alabama Community College.
  2. Fulfill the role of Nursing Instructor in the classroom, skills and simulation labs, and clinical settings which includes planning, developing, organizing, coordinating, preparing, directing, instructing, supervising, evaluating, and documenting for assigned nursing courses.
  3. Promote the development of the clinical decision making skills in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
  4. Prepare and maintain current instructional materials, including a syllabus, for the assigned nursing courses in compliance with College and Division of Nursing guidelines.
  5. Participate in the planning, development, evaluation, and revision of the nursing curriculum.
  6. Assist with program/clinical orientation, academic advising, and mentoring of nursing students and new nursing faculty.
  7. Assist with maintenance of skills and simulation labs.
  8. Participate in the identification, preview, and acquisition of instructional resources
  9. Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the nursing program.
  10. Maintain current nursing knowledge and clinical skills that incorporate evidence-based practice.
  11. Employ teaching strategies which incorporate instructional technology.
  12. Establish collaborative relationships with other faculty, clinical healthcare personnel, and community agencies.
  13. Implement and document strategies based on the analysis of student achievement and data which promote student success.
  14. Comply with the policies and procedures at the assigned clinical facilities.
  15. Serve as a role model for the nursing profession.
  16. Provide related services and support activities that promote student success within a diverse student population, including academic advising.
  17. Ensure compliance with standards and guidelines delineated by approval and accrediting agencies.
  18. Maintain appropriate office hours.
  19. Respond in a timely fashion to requests.
  20. Participate in professional growth activities.
  21. Possess the ability to travel to all instructional sites, all clinical sites, and meetings.
  22. Possess the ability to provide classroom, lab, or clinical instruction in the day, evening, and/or on the weekend at any instructional site/clinical site.
  23. Serve on the College and Division of Nursing committees.
  24. Adhere to Board of Trustees and College policy and operate within ethical and legal bounds as described by the State of Alabama Code.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned that relate to the position.

Qualifications
  1. Minimum of Master's Degree in Nursing (18 semester or 27 quarter hours in nursing) from an accredited institution is required.
  2. Unencumbered Alabama registered nurse license is required.
  3. Evidence of current nursing knowledge, clinical skills, and teaching strategies that incorporate technology is required.
  4. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  5. Proficiency in the English language is required.
  6. Three (3) years' of experience in nursing practice is required.
  7. Current Basic Life Support Provider CPR certification is required.
  8. Clinical and/or teaching experience in pediatric, adult health or mental health nursing is preferred.
  9. Teaching experience at the RN level is preferred.
  10. Knowledge of and experience with the utilization of technology in nursing education is preferred.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
