Mary Wade is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant to help plans, organizes, and directs medically approved recreation program for residents in the Skilled Nursing Unit.

Schedule: Temporary Full-Time: 40hrs/wk: Ability to work evenings during the week & every other weekend and evenings (8 hr. shifts with flexibility)

Job Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a Nursing Home Recreation department a plus
  • Prior Nursing Home experience a plus
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality
  • Demonstrates cooperation and teamwork with peers and other departments.
  • Engages in positive customer service interaction with residents, families and visitors.
  • Takes ownership of an error in delivery of service and works to correct the problem.
  • Displays good attendance and is punctual
  • Agility to work with Seniors with Alzheimer's and Dementia
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the elderly in a healthcare setting.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs and organizes such therapeutic activities such as creative arts therapy including music, art, dance or drama therapy, games, and social individual activities to assist residents to develop interpersonal relationships in accordance with residents’ capabilities, needs and interests.
  • Plans daily living group activities, to help develop new skills and/or experience therapeutically new or revived emotions.
  • Organizes and coordinates special outings and accompanies residents on outings such as ball games, sightseeing, or picnics to make residents aware of available recreational resources.
  • Provides attractively decorated bulletin boards and materials for residents, staff and visitors identifying activities available.
  • Ensures newly admitted residents and families are comfortable and well informed.
  • Meal preparation, transport and assist nursing staff during meals as scheduled.
  • Instructs residents in relaxation techniques and other activities to reduce stress and tension..
  • Instructs residents in calisthenics, stretching and limbering exercises, and individual and group sports.
