Purpose: The Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) directs the day-to-day functions of the facility in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long-term care facilities to assure that the highest degree of quality care can be always provided to our residents. Follow all established policies and procedures to include nursing care procedures, safety regulations, human resources policies, departmental policies and procedures to assure that quality resident care and an effective operation can be maintained.
Accountability: Directly Responsible to the Executive Director
Worksite: A minimum of 80% of the work related to this position is completed on-site on the campuses of the New Glarus Home, Inc.
Essential Job Functions:
- Regulatory Compliance
- Assure facility compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations
- Assure compliance with the Residents' Bill of Rights.
- Policy and Procedure
- Direct and ensure the implementation of written policies and procedures that reflect the goals and objectives of the facility and administrative team.
- Oversee the development and formulation of facility policies and procedures with the approval of the Executive Director
- Assure that all facility personnel, residents, and visitors follow established safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Finance
- Collaborates with Executive Director in the preparation of annual operating budget.
- Educate Nursing Services staff on how to be fiscally responsible.
- Authorize the purchase of major equipment or routine supplies in accordance with standard procedures.
- Assure that physical assets of the facility are maintained in good condition and that material and supply inventories are maintained at appropriate levels.
- Establish and/or maintain timely records and documentation appropriate to Medicaid/ Medicare/other reimbursement programs.
- Provide regular Nursing Home Administrator reports to the Board of Directors (Typically Monthly)
- Program Development
- Recommend and interpret the need for changes in policies and procedures to ensure that the skilled nursing facility, assisted living facilities and independent living facilities are meeting the goals and objectives of each and the required standardization of processes and procedures across all services
- Provide oversight of Skilled Nursing Facility including Memory Care and Rehabilitation
- Provided guidance to Assisted Living Facilities to ensure that they are operating within the confines of DHS 89
- Utilize Analytical Skills to review processes and implement efficiencies across all facilities.
- Assure the implementation of therapeutic, recreational, and rehabilitative programs to meet social and activity needs of residents.
- Assure that nutritional needs of residents are met.
- Assure the provision all ancillary services are either offered or provided to residents.
- Ensure Quality Assurance Committee meetings are held monthly
- Approve Policies and Procedures with DON and Medical Director annually.
- Facilitate the strategic planning for all New Glarus Home related services
- Personnel Management
- Make routine rounds throughout the facility to establish working relations with all staff personnel and ensure that an optimum level of resident care is provided, the environment is being maintained in a safe and sanitary fashion, systems are in place, and that employees are appropriately attired and receiving appropriate supervision.
- Meet with Executive Director and Department Supervisors on a weekly basis to review interdepartmental issues, expense control, labor control, and any other pertinent resident and/or environmental issues as appropriate or necessary.
- Conduct brief daily meetings with senior staff.
- Oversee, review and update Disaster Preparedness Plan annually with input from staff and other experts as necessary
- Supervise department heads and complete department head evaluations during a probationary period and then annually, as well as provide counsel or disciplinary action as appropriate.
- Participate in interviews and training, supervise employee hiring, performance evaluations, implement counseling and disciplinary action policies and participate in grievance procedures and terminations.
- Leadership and Direction
- Ensure a strong and robust communications process between all managers and staff within the organization and within the community as needed, by leading communications sessions and meetings with managers and ensuring the appropriate dissemination of communications to staff and residents.
- Ensure a working environment that promotes respect and dignity among management, staff, and resident population.
- Lead development of and oversee sales and marketing initiatives
- Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to departmental directors and other responsible persons.
- Ensure 24-hour availability to administration resources by providing on call and telephone access or designating alternative qualified facility staff members.
- Represent the facility in dealings with external organizations and entities, including governmental agencies and third-party vendors, or provide an authorized representative of the facility when unable to attend such meetings.
- Oversee the creation and implementation of an effective community relations program that serves the best interest of the facility and community.
- Oversee and participate in the development of effective sales and marketing initiatives. Maintain memberships and presence in all WAHSA, CHSSM and other Long Term Care related organizations.
- Working with Board of Directors and other sources of expertise, develop and implement plans to create a NGH Foundation. The Foundation should ultimately provide a source of revenue to offset unrecoverable costs and minimize financial impact on the residents of the NGH.
