Nursing Clinical Faculty & Nursing Faculty

Clinical faculty teaches students in the clinical setting and may also have practice/simulation laboratory responsibilities or assist in the classroom setting. Clinical faculty function under the supervision of full-time course faculty members and the Director of Nursing. Only Full-time employees qualify for benefits.

Responsibilities:

I. Professional Behavior

1. Demonstrates proper respect for students and has student-friendly manner in the conduct of class.

2. Provides assistance to the course faculty to ensure the curriculum being taught addresses course or workshop learning objectives.

3. Works effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, collaborating with other faculty members to meet student needs, participating in faculty meetings and nursing program committees, and responding to requests from management.

II. Procedural/Grading, Evaluation

4. Evaluates student progress toward meeting clinical objectives using the established clinical evaluation tool. Communicate student progress verbally and in writing to the course faculty as well as to the student at midterm, at end of term and as needed.

5. Maintains attendance and tardy records of assigned students and works cooperatively with Nursing Faculty to counsel students regarding attendance.

6. Works cooperatively with Nursing Faculty to counsel students regarding attendance, classroom or clinical issues, and assist students in developing an appropriate plan for improvement.

III. Facilitation of Learning

7. Designs students’ clinical experiences and assignments to achieve stated clinical course objectives and supervises students in the clinical area to maintain safe practice and achieve clinical objectives

8. Provides for pre and post conferences in the clinical area concurrent with unit experience, clinical learning objectives, and individual student needs as directed by course faculty.

9. Ensures students’ ability to assume clinical assignments and provides for student orientation to the assigned clinical facility, including orientation to physical environment and staff.

IV. Faculty Development Plan

10. Attends workshops and in-service education aimed at earning the necessary CEU’s for license requirements and professional growth.

11. Demonstrates competence in the clinical area being taught.

12. Pursues a Master of Nursing or PhD in Nursing degree (if applicable).

Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved professional nursing education program.
  • Experience for at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
  • Current active unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in state where program is located or multistate privilege to practice nursing in state.
  • An earned master's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Expertise in the area in which assigned to teach.
  • Competent in personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check and drug screening, appropriate immunizations, and current CPR and HIPPA certifications.

Measurement of Success:

  • Course and program outcome measures
  • Director of Nursing evaluation
  • Student evaluations
  • Feedback from course faculty member, clinical facilities and other program constituents.

Nursing Faculty

Reports to: Dean of Nursing

Position Summary:
Nursing faculty are professionals with the education and practice skills to prepare the next generation of nurses. Faculty is accountable to the Dean of Nursing for the implementation of the approved curriculum based on the mission and philosophy of the nursing program and the College. Faculty provides students with opportunities to acquire the knowledge and practice the skills identified in course objectives using varied and appropriate teaching methods. They plan learning activities to meet program outcomes based on the standards set by policies, legal and other regulatory requirements, and acceptable practices. Faculty also participates in the program’s evaluation and continuous improvement process and engages in personal professional development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates proper respect for students and has student-friendly manner in the conduct of class.
  • Teaches to course or workshop learning objectives.
  • Works effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, collaborating with other faculty members to meet student needs, participating in faculty meetings and nursing program committees, and responding to requests from management.
  • Participates in the budget process to identify resources needed to meet program outcomes.
  • Participates in ongoing program evaluation activities as needed and confers with the Dean of Nursing to ensure compliance with Education Affiliates and EA policies.
  • Provides EA formatted syllabus that sets forth measurable grading criteria, encourages on time assignments, and includes local campus required elements.
  • Provides expectations and standards for course assignments that demonstrate academic rigor in accordance with the course module.
  • Maintains academic standards and course expectations throughout each course or workshop.
  • Provides feedback to the student on grammar & syntax and paper format that includes title page, introduction, body, conclusion, and reference page (use of APA format?).
  • Communicates with the Dean of Nursing as necessary to resolve issues or concerns.
  • Leads discussions and elicits information from students which demonstrate that students are learning and accomplishing the course or workshop objectives.
  • Utilizes course materials effectively, demonstrates thorough knowledge of content, and incorporates real life nursing practice examples.
  • Utilizes multiple teaching methods and techniques including audio/visual aids/computer technologies and group activities.
  • Provides appropriate handouts and supplemental materials.
  • Provides clinical instruction to students in approved health care settings, adhering to the policies of the clinical setting and the College.
  • Serves as local contact for assigned and faculty developed clinical sites under the direction of the Dean of Nursing.
  • Implements effectively the Evolve Success Program (ESP), which includes the Evolve HESI Specialty Exams and the Elsevier Case Studies and Practice Tests, to help student prepare for the NCLEX.
  • Implements effectively Kaplan Review material where utilized.
  • Provides feedback and develops an individualized remediation plan for any student that is not performing successfully in the Evolve Success Program (ESP).
  • Provides annual documentation of continuing professional growth at the employee’s expense.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved professional nursing education program.
  • Experience of at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
  • A master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program required for faculty teaching in associate degree and bachelor's of science in nursing programs.
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing is the required to teach in practical/vocational nursing programs.
  • A current active unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the state in which the program is located or multi-state privilege to practice in state.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Excellent teaching and classroom management skills
  • Functional abilities to carry out classroom, clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities
  • Competence in clinical skills in areas of teaching
  • Competent in personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check and drug screening, required immunizations, current CPR and HIPAA certifications.

Classification: Exempt

Work Hours: Part-time, vary daily and include day/evening/weekend hours.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
