Roles & Responsibilities:

The Nursing Assistant - Mobility Aid is an individual who functions in a support role to the Registered Professional Nurse or Therapy team by providing direct, mobility-related patient care activities as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:                                                                                         

1. Performs and records patient's vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respirations.           
2. Assists patient with ambulation, transfers out of bed, and all levels of mobilization, as directed by Nursing and Therapy teams.
3. Assists patients in performing ROM, therapeutic exercise and activities of daily living, as directed by Nursing and Therapy teams.
4. Provides for safe and comfortable lifting, positioning and ambulation of patients in accordance with the principles of good body mechanics. Utilizes mechanical devises as necessary.
5. Participates in daily huddles and interdisciplinary rounds related to patient mobility status and goals. 
6. Reports pertinent information and observations regarding patients to the registered nurse.
7. Observes, reports, and records specific patient data, behaviors and responses to treatment on the appropriate flow sheet/EMR.     
8. Maintains a safe, clean and functional environment, including ensuring for the comfortable movement of the patient.
9. Cleans mobility equipment and assistive devices between patient use, in compliance with infection prevention policies.
10. Maintains storage of mobility related equipment in a safe, clean, uncluttered and tidy manner.   
11. Provides support to the family/significant others.       
12. Works in a safe manner and provides for the safety of patients and other employees.     
13. Utilizes aggression control measures in the care of patients who are verbally or physically threatening.             
14. Communicates information and basic instructions to patients, families, and visitors.

Requirements: 

High School Diploma or equivalent

Completed training as a medical assistant or nursing

Experience Requirements:                                                                                                               

Prefer relevant experience in an inpatient health care setting

Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable):                                             

American Heart Association Heartsaver or BLS Certification required
