Applicants must be able to lift a minimum of 40 to 50 pounds; heavier weights with assistance from others. Job requires lifting, walking, bending, and moving plants around. This job requires physical/manual labor. You will be working outdoors. Must be OK with Texas heat and cold.
We are looking for someone who takes initiative themselves and does not always have to be given a task to do. Attention to detail is very important.
Weekends are important in the Spring. Schedule is usually 5 days a week, Saturday and Sunday mandatory. (Occasional requested days off are typically acceptable.)
- Help transplant trees, shrubs, and other plants.
- Assist customers when needed. Help customers load their vehicles. Good customer service skills.
- Operate a lawn mower and possibly other machinery and equipment.
- Trim plants and shrubs. Remove weeds from plants.
- Unload delivery trucks and stock shelves. Transport plants around the nursery.
- Maintain clean work areas. Keep the nursery tidy.
- Propagation.
- Greenhouse maintenance. Keeping retail areas looking nice and taking care of plants.
Here are a few more skills that are not mandatory, but could be very helpful:
- Construction experience. Knowing how to work with tools, carpentry, greenhouse building, irrigation installation/maintenance/repair, etc.
- Plant knowledge. Able to identify plants and have knowledge of how to care for them. Common plant pest knowledge. Pesticide application knowledge.
- Forklift operation.
Experience is not necessary, but welcomed!
