Salary Range: $66,500 - $76,500

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Sensitivity to cultural diversity of others.

  • The Nurse Supervisor provides health services for students and act as an advocate, liaison, and consultant on health related issues for students, families and school personnel. They are an integral part of the MCCC school program in supporting an optimum physical, mental, emotional and social climate for all students and staff.
  • The Nurse Supervisor will support the coordination and delivery of the School Health program through communication and collaboration with the following individuals: School staff and administration, parents, students, medical providers and community resources.
  • The Nurse Supervisor will support the leadership and supervision of the nursing team and will be able to fulfill the essential duties of the Nurse Manager in her absence.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

 Delivery of Health Services

  • Protects and maintains each student’s health by providing professional nursing services in accordance with Nursing Practice Standards, the NYS Education Department and professional licensing requirements.
  • Provides NY State-mandated and annual screening programs including height, weight and BMI measurements.
  • Facilitates NY State-mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements.
  • Identifies and assesses students’ health needs, implementing services, and evaluating plans of care which impact student learning and achievement or safety.
  • Participates as members of the school’s multi-disciplinary team, interpreting medical data and writing objectives for the health and safety components of the IEP.
  • Monitors the general health and safety standards used within the educational program.
  • Identifies and reports school building safety or environmental issues which impact student or staff health to the building administrator.
  • Acts as liaison between home and school, and community providers for medical issues, including visiting students at home as directed.
  • Ensures that accurate and current school health information files on all children registered in the center based program are maintained.
  • Assumes a charge role and carries out all procedures established in case of student or staff health emergency.
  • Administers vaccinations to staff and students only as approved by the Medical Director.
  • Provides on-site observations for nursing students in college or university affiliated student nursing programs as request by the Education and Training Director.
  • Actively participates in supervision with the Nurse Manager.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Information Management

  • Documents all health services provided in accordance with the NYS Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintains current pertinent health data for each student on the individual student electronic and paper health records.
  • Completes student and staff injury reports.
  • Initiates and documents health surveillance programs as needed, and records and compiles aggregate student health information as required by NYS Department of Health.

Health Education

  • Promotes an environment that is positive, student-centered, and differentiated to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Provides staff and community educational opportunities as needed.

Professional Development/Community Involvement

  • Develops and pursues individual professional growth opportunities which may include: in-service workshops, graduate courses, conferences and collegial learning.
  • Collaborates with community partners in delivery of Health Education or services as needed.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provides daily clinical guidance and support to the nursing team and school.
  • Provides regular and consistent staff supervision, including completing required observations and evaluations.
  • Approves time reporting for nursing staff.
  • Makes the necessary caseload assignments to department staff, ensuring that all children are receiving the necessary nursing service.
  • Determines daily staffing patterns together with other Lead Nurse II staff to ensure safety staffing is in place in all office locations.
  • Ensures the completion of all necessary student health documentation, ensuring quality and accuracy (includes IEPs, RS Logs, MARs; Medicaid reimbursement).
  • Stays informed of student population issues and concerns.
  • Ensures consistency and continuity of care.
  • Approves time off for nursing staff.
  • Compiles all accident/incident information for presentation at monthly School Safety Committee meetings.
  • Supports the development and implementation of school health policy and procedures.
  • Actively participates in supervision with the Nurse Manager III.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Current NYS Registered Nursing License; Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred;  Or Bachelor’s Degree in related field with Registered Nursing License.
