Position : Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant

Location: 805 N Avenue F, Post, TX 79356

Employment type: Direct hire; Full-time

Rate of pay: $120,000 annually

Work schedule: Days; Monday-Friday

Facility setting: Ambulatory-like setting with short-stays and urgent care for approximately 1,000 pre-trial and presentenced male residents

Position summary : A mid-level provider is responsible for providing nursing care for specific patients under the direction of a physician. She/he follows established nursing standards, procedures and practices and gives specific patient care direction to nursing and other staff in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required and adjust treatment processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Perform CPR when necessary.

  • Monitor medical condition of patients and report and document changes appropriate to scope of practice.

  • Diagnose and treat patients appropriately, exercising independent judgment, initiating an effective course of action.

  • Perform daily information rounds and prepare notes on detainees assigned to medical housing.

  • Perform basic procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of dressings and casts.

  • Order diagnostic and therapeutic services and assess efficiency, documenting results and making needed changes.

  • Consult with facility medical director in a collaborative and cooperative relationship.

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive charting on patient medical records.

  • Serve in rotation with other providers to provide after-hours and weekend patient care, if required, to include accepting on-call rotation.

  • Utilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.

  • Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.

  • Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.

  • Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.

  • Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances.

  • Assist corporate counsel with responses to detainee lawsuits.

  • Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.

  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.

  • Requires long periods of walking and standing.

Education and experience requirements:

  • A masters degree in nursing or a degree required for licensure in the state of Texas (MSN) is needed.

  • Successful completion of an accredited program for Nurse Practitioner or physician assistants is essential.

  • Must have a current DEA registration unless state practice regulations permit other prescribing arrangements under supervision.

  • A valid Nurse Practitioner or advanced practice nurse Licensure in the state of Texas is required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is necessary.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • A valid driver license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.

Post-hire requirements:

  • Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

  • An active certification must be maintained.
