The Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care provides health care services to approximately 80,000 Veterans in a 19-county area of southeastern North Carolina. Our facilities include the Fayetteville VA Medical Center, two health care centers-one in Fayetteville and one in Wilmington, 9 outpatient clinics.
Manages and provides wellness and illness care to assigned group of patients. This includes assessment, diagnosis, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, prescribing medications and treatment plan when applicable and evaluating treatment outcomes.
Uses clinical judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; application of regulation, policy, guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements.
Documents information utilized in clinical determination and eligibility assessment tools.Performs a wide range of services, collaborating with interprofessional Centralized Eligibility and Appeals Team (CEAT) members to make eligibility determinations, tier level determinations, discharges, and appeals for the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC).
Conducts a comprehensive clinical review of patient records to identify the presence of the Veteran need for assistance with person.
Effectively evaluates and treats patients with more complex medical problems requiring a higher degree of clinical skill and competency.
Orders testing, consults, etc. as appropriate for the Veteran's condition. Performs complete diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as applicable in the provision of primary care.
Documents in the medical record in keeping in with the Bylaws of the Medical Center.Ensures practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPAA policies.
Responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate.

Basic Requirements:

  • English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • All APN(NPs) must maintain full and current board certification in an area of clinical speciality from one of the following :
  • The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC):or
  • The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB)
  • Other nationally recognized certifying bodies in the speciality of which the NP is academically prepared(e.g., NCC- Woens;s Health)
  • Basic board certificatio for a NP id a condition of employment and a qualifying factor for the specific position/assignment.

Physical Requirements:See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles.
In addition, this position requires a pre-employment physical. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far visions correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.

Additional information
Annual leave shall accrue for full-time Nurses, and Nurse Anesthetists at the rate of 8 hours for each full biweekly pay period.
