JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner OBAT serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing Office Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) in a broad range of locations across the catchment areas of our SWVA region. Responsible for providing OBAT via medications appropriate for the treatment of Opioid addiction such as Buprenorphine and Naltrexone. Provides addiction services via medication evaluation and management for those with primary diagnosis of Opioid Use Disorder, other Substance Use Disorders, and may also have additional Mental health diagnoses. These services are rendered under the supervision of consulting psychiatrist(s) to include 24-hour call.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct Medication Assisted Treatment to include OBAT services, and crisis response to new and existing individuals with Substance Use Disorder. Develop individual service plans based upon assessment data, and provide therapeutic interventions as necessary, including the provision of on-going medication management services.
- Provide care and treatment management of Substance Use Disorders. Participate in on-call rotation to 24/7 crisis stabilization and emergency services treatment team.
- Pursue ASAM training (and additional training if required) to provide Office Based Assisted Treatment to individuals with opioid use and substance use disorders.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic studies for monitoring of disease progression and pharmacological effectiveness, when necessary
- Complete all documentation required by state law and agency regulations.
- Provide individualized consultation and health management related to disease management, medication regimen, promotion of wellness, health maintenance, and disease prevention to individuals with SUD.
- Participate in continuing education seminars to maintain current state licensure and professional certification. Keeps mandatory training up-to-date.
- Conduct agency trainings/presentations related to medical topics/issues upon request.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Provide occasional coverage on a rotational basis for other Mount Rogers' services.
- Perform such other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extensive knowledge of: the etiology of SMIs, ID, and SUD and their treatment by a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology; nursing practice and medical evaluation, physical diseases, and their treatment; community resources and networking techniques; and of psychiatric and medical emergency stabilization.
- Must have strong clinical skills, to include crisis.
- Good critical thinking and decision-making skills needed to evaluate and respond to changes in clients' conditions.
- Dynamic interpersonal skills and therapeutic communication skills needed to work effectively with consumers and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Must be knowledge of the DSM-V, diagnostic screening tools, psychopharmacology, and psychotherapy.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Licensure in Virginia as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner preferred or Family Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of two years' experience working with persons with Opioid Use Disorder and other SUD preferred.
Strong clinical skills and experience providing treatment to individuals with Opioid Use Disorder and other SUD preferred.
Valid Driver's license and a safe driving record required.
