Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Manager- Faculty Group Practice- *Manhattan, NY*.
In this role the FGP Nurse Manager will oversee the delivery of ambulatory patient care with an emphasis on decision-making related to the steps in the nursing process to include assessment, diagnosis, and identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation.
In this role, the FGP Nurse Manager will ensure provision of competent, safe, and compassionate care by implementing and enforcing the NYULH Patient Care, Statutory and National Professional Nursing Standards. As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the FGP Nurse Manager will collaborate with providers and others on the clinical care team to formulate and implement comprehensive patient centered plans of care to achieve expected outcomes. Maintains self competency and responsibility in all aspect of role of Ambulatory Care RN  FGP.
Effectively interacts with providers, patients, and families/patient support persons, to identify and resolve opportunities and/ or concerns related to the delivery of healthcare services. Ensures excellent patient experience and adherence to Faculty Group Practice (FGP) standards. Ensures compliance with standards and regulations promulgated by all applicable agencies. Actively partners with FGP Clinical Team.

Job Responsibilities:

Provides support and oversight for clinical staff:
In collaboration with practice leadership: interviews, hires, develops, guides, counsels, and disciplines clinical staff consistent with principles of caring, fair, and professional work environment.
Provides clinical supervision of LPNs, RNs, MAs and other clinical staff, ensuring all competencies and clinical responsibilities are met.
Supports, reinforces, and advocates for clinical roles in ambulatory practice.
Mentors staff, and actively promotes professional development.
Promotes employee engagement activities within the practice, and solicits feedback.
Participates in practice operation activities by establish efficient clinical workflows, and operating with consideration of fiscal aspects related to staffing, skill mix and efficient use of resources.
Collects, analyzes and utilizes integrated data to inform practice changes that impact quality, safety, patient experience and productivity metrics and result in excellent patient outcomes.
Oversees Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities across the practice site related to clinical treatment and testing.
Collects, analyzes and utilizes integrated data to inform practice changes that impact quality, safety, patient experience and productivity metrics and result in excellent patient outcomes.
Supports activities around national and statutory quality outcomes initiatives.
Identifies, investigates and proactively responds to potential and actual risk management issues.
Resolves employee issues and addresses procedure and performance related issues. Authorizes attendance, schedules, and sick time changes. Responsible for timekeeping and payroll for direct reports.

General Responsibilities
Promotes satisfaction of internal and external customers through effective communication and use of efficient workflows, in partnership with Supervisors, Managers, and Faculty Group Practice (FGP) Leadership team.
Effectively interacts with providers, patients, and families/patient support persons, to identify and resolve opportunities and/ or concerns related to the delivery of healthcare services. As such, utilizes independent judgement and decision making skills, to ensure excellent patient experience and adherence to faculty Group Practice FGP standards.
Assures compliance with standards and regulations promulgated by all applicable agencies. Implements required components, and monitors adherence to regulatory guidelines as defined by specific entities for both global and specific practice / procedural areas. Takes corrective actions as indicated. 
Facilitates an environment conducive to creativity in practice, shared decision making, and collaboration with all members of the healthcare team.
In collaboration with practice leadership, interviews, hires, develops, guides, counsels, and disciplines clinical staff consistent with principles of caring, fair, and professional work environment.

Operations
Establishes clinical workflows most appropriate for practice. Shares best practice with FGP Clinical Leadership team to maintain consistency and shared success.
Works closely with practice leadership to ensure practice goals are met and policies are followed.
Serves as main contact for AAAASF, Laboratory, and other certifications where applicable.  Ensures required competency of procedural staff, with associated proof/documentation. Partners with FGP Clinical Team.
Ensures medication products and clinical equipment are up to date, stocked & available as needed.
Responsible for monitoring medication, vaccine and anesthesia drug supply; including ordering, ensuring proper storage, and reviewing expiration dates. 
Operates with knowledge of practice budget with consideration to appropriate staffing, skill mix, patient outcomes, safety and efficient use of resources.
Collaborates with NYU Infection Prevention staff to uphold infection protocols and standards.

Quality
Collects, analyzes and utilizes integrated data to inform practice changes that impact quality, safety, patient experience and productivity metrics and result in excellent patient outcomes.
Participates in interdisciplinary teams and meetings related to Quality Improvement programs.
Supports activities around national and statutory quality outcomes initiatives.
Identifies, investigates and proactively responds to potential and actual risk management issues, in accordance with state and national standards and FGP policies

  • Assures compliance with standards and regulations promulgated by all applicable agencies. 
  • Implements and monitors adherence to regulatory guidelines and takes corrective actions where appropriate. 
  • Develops and implements action plans in response to internal and external benchmarking data, problems, findings, issues, incidents, and complaints.
  •  Partners with Office Management and Physicians to ensure adherence to HIPPA guidelines.
  • Oversees QI and QA activities across the practice site related to clinical treatment, testing (including laboratory and POC testing,) and processes. Develops unit-based improvement initiatives.
  • Oversees the creation and review of occurrence reports and events generated through PSI application.  Escalates and informs FGP Clinical Leadership ASAP of any safety issues, or patient facing effects.

Nursing Oversight/Support
Provides clinical supervision of LPNs, RNs, and other clinical staff, ensuring all competencies and clinical responsibilities are met.
Ensures Providers and Nurses are up to date on required certifications, e.g. ACLS, PALS, and BLS.
Provides orientation, training, and evaluation of competency for new or transitioning nurses for required procedures, skills, and workflows, as per individual practice site and job description.
Maintains and makes changes to nursing staff schedules to ensure proper coverage for all areas. Where applicable, works with MA Supervisors to ensure staffing levels are appropriate for patient volume.
Provides education and reinforcement for team and role response to emergency situations. Orchestrates regular training exercises and drills for clinical codes and emergencies. Partners with FGP Clinical Leadership on content and curriculum.
Ensures that all clinical staff are advised of any new medical procedures or policies. This includes infection control guidelines. Maintains contact with organizational and FGP Clinical Leadership to ensure adherence and awareness of most recent policy, guidelines.
Participates in ongoing nursing leadership meetings and brings relevant information back to the clinical team for implementation.

Clinical Support
Maintains self competency.
Maintains self-competence and responsibility in all aspects of role of Ambulatory Care RN - FGP, including but not limited to:
o Performs physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
o Collects patient health history.
o Records information in electronic health record.
o Counsels and educates patients and their families on treatment plans, results as directed.
o Administers medication, (includes vaccination, other injections, oxygen therapy, IV therapy) manages complex wound care, and provides other treatments as ordered and within NYS RN scope of practice.
o Reads and interprets patient information, making treatment decisions as appropriate.
o Performs other duties as needed.
Supports and reinforces clinical roles in ambulatory practice.
Understands and ensures that clinical staff work within designated scope of practice as per NYS and organizational policy.
Advocates for professional nursing practice at highest level of licensure.
Supervises, hires, evaluates, and oversees practice of RN & LPN staff.
Provides oversight of Medical Assistant (MA) Supervisors and high-level oversight of all Medical Assistants and Phlebotomists to ensure clinical safety and competency.

Clinical Operations: 
Serves as main contact for all clinical emergencies within the facility.
Serves as an escalation contact for all call center red flag words and clinical calls.
Plays active role in monitoring and assisting physicians with in-baskets, including pairing RNs with Providers based on weekly needs.
Monitors clinical in-baskets to ensure all are addressed before daily close of business.
Oversees and implements opportunities for use of patient education materials and resources.
Continually evaluates clinical workflows for improvement opportunities, engaging and informing staff as appropriate.
Performs annual and midyear competencies for Nursing staff and provides input for evaluations of other Clinical staff as appropriate.
Prioritizes office needs, training staff and allocation of staff based on skills and ability.
Collaborates with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office team members to promote a positive patient experience.

Staff Engagement
Mentors staff, and actively promotes the development of operational/financial/clinical  performance improvement skills across teams.
Completes staff competency assessments and performance evaluations providing feedback, identifying training needs, and pathways for employee continued career success.
Conducts routine staff meetings and huddles to promote staff communication and feedback. Maintains attendance and agenda with minutes.
Supports employee participation in FGP corporate meetings to align with larger network updates and training as appropriate.    
Develops staff related initiatives to show gratitude towards their efforts to support the NYU Patient Experience model.
Promotes employee engagement activities within the practice, and solicits feedback.
Works collaboratively with colleagues and site management to ensure a positive experience and timely resolution for all patient interactions and inquiries.

Patient Experience
  Drives consistency in every patient and colleague encounter by embodying the core principles of our FGP Service Strategy CARES (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, and Sign-Off).
  Greets patients warmly and professionally, stating name and role, and clearly communicates each step of the care/interaction as appropriate.
   Works collaboratively with colleagues and site management to ensure a positive experience and timely resolution for all patient interactions and inquiries whether in person, by phone or via electronic messaging.  
   Proactively anticipates patient needs, and participates in service recovery by applying the LEARN model (Listen, Empathize, Apologize, Resolve, Notify), and escalates to leadership as appropriate.
   Shares ideas or any observed areas of opportunity, to improve patient experience and patient access, with appropriate leadership. (i.e. ways to optimize provider schedules, how to minimize delays, increase employee engagement, etc.)
   Partners with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office team members to support collaboration and promote a positive patient experience.
   Takes a proactive approach in ensuring that practice staff are fully versed in the Access Agreement gold standard principles.

Minimum Qualifications:
Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. At least three years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served; ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion which addresses research subject/family satisfaction. Progressive leadership demonstrated in a leadership position or demonstrates the potential for leadership competency; demonstrates ability to develop, guide, motivate, nurture, and coach others; participation in service of departmental committees. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving. Membership in pertinent professional organizations.
Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Basic Life Support Cert

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in Nursing or health-related area preferred. Certification in relevant practice area preferred.
