Nurse Manager - Emergency Department - 40 Hours - Day Shift

GENERAL SUMMARY
Unit Overview:
The 361-bed Henry Ford Macomb Hospital is a Level 2 trauma center, providing advanced emergency services to more than 56,000 adult and pediatric patients annually. Henry Ford Macomb is a Top 100 Heart Hospital with a 24/7 Cardiac Cath Lab and Primary Stroke Center. In addition, we are leaders in sepsis management. The hospital has consistently earned Top Hospital and an A grade for patient safety performance from The Leapfrog Group. We serve the needs of a diverse, high acuity patient population. 34% of ED patients seen are admitted, 72% of all hospital patients are admitted through the Emergency Department, Patient mix: 2% critically ill, 29% emergent care, 9% pediatrics, and 60% all others. This department consists of 17 senior staff physicians and 23 Emergency residents. There are more than 175 RNs and support personnel employed full-time by the department.
The Nursing Manager is a Registered Nurse who is accountable for leading, managing, developing, supervising and evaluating the delivery of patient care within the Emergency Department. Provides administrative and clinic leadership and works in partnership with nursing, the health care team and leadership to assure quality patient care. Care is provided in accordance with departmental and health system policies and procedures. Facilitates empowerment of staff in the implementation of creative and innovative patient care delivery models and stimulates a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach in the continuous improvement of patient care services. In conjunction with the Administrator, assumes responsibility for fiscal management of Emergency Department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's Degree in nursing or related field.
• Master's Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or equivalent is preferred.
• Three to five years of progressively more responsible experience demonstrating leadership skills in a clinical setting. Some examples include: Charge Nurse Duties; Leadership of special projects such as Service Excellence teams; Quality Improvement initiatives, Clinic Process Redesign.
• Successful completion of Henry Ford Hospital Pharmacology test.
• Maintains professional competency through review of current literature, attendance at educational programs, and participation in professional organizations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage complex clinical, administrative and interpersonal problems.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES
• Current license to practice in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS/ACLS.
