Job description

The Nurse Graduate Extern is able to render care in accordance with their skills, ability, and competencies to our patient population, thus may be required to float to other units. May be required to participate in on call status as patient census demands.
Nurse Graduate Extern position at Northwest Health - Porter Hospital - Various Departments - days / nights positions

  • Full Time: 36 hours per week, 12 hour shifts
  • Part Time: 24 hours per week, 12 hour shifts
  • Hours: 7a-7p or 7p-7a
  • Eligible for health benefits, which can include your spouse and/or children

Education:
  • Active enrollment in an accredited school of nursing in final semester/term. Completion of accredited nursing program preferred or New graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Required to schedule NCLEX-RN exam within 90 days of hire.
  • Required to sit for NCLEX-RN and receive RN Licensure within 120 days of hire date.

Licensure:
  • BLS certification required

All responsibilities are conducted under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse:
  • Conducts accurate and timely clinical assessment. Identified and prioritizes patient/family needs and concerns. May recommend to Registered Nurse, components of an individualized plan of care supporting realistic goals, education and discharge planning. Assure care is consistent with the established policies, procedures and protocols and standards of care.
  • Communicates with the patient information to make informed decision related to his/her care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing process to include assessment, intervention and evaluation.
  • Has a successful record of adding value to organizations through the proactive analysis and resolution of potential bottlenecks that may negatively affect the organization.
  • Demonstrates a record of significantly improving patient experience.
  • Possesses superior communication skills, demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Documents information to validate the nursing care given and decisions made.
  • Manages and delegates patient assignments in a manner that reflects safety, quality and efficiency to the patient and others in the interdisciplinary team.
