Job Description
The LPN Apprenticeship Program is a new partnership with Health First, Eastern Florida State College and the Florida Department of Education. We are exciting to welcome more LPNs to begin or continue their Nursing careers at Health First.
• The applicant must be enrolled in the first semester of the Eastern Florida State College LPN Program or have completed the first semester of the LPN Program in good standing to be considered for the apprenticeship
• The LPN Apprenticeship Program-on-the Job Learning Competencies will begin when Semester 2 of the LPN program begins
• The Apprentice will be eligible to transition to the Nurse Residency Program following graduation from the LPN Program and passing the NCLEX
• Upon successful completion of the LPN Apprenticeship Program Related Technical Instruction and the On-the-Job Learning Competencies, the LPN Program Apprentice will receive the Apprenticeship Program Completion Certificate from the Department of Education
POSITION SUMMARY
To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by assisting licensed personnel in providing direct nursing care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Collects, records, and reports accurate patient information.
2. Provides care to patients in a clean and safe environment.
3. Competently performs routine procedures, delivering basic care to patients as directed by RN
4. Provides service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their expectations, age, cultural and individual needs.
5. Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and flexibility in assisting other associates and maintaining productivity.
6. Responds to call lights and completes other assigned tasks in a timely manner.
7. Consistently and effectively demonstrates compliance with department service standards such as purposeful rounding, bedside shift report, and white board management to enhance customer communication.
8. Demonstrates effective communication with all members of the health care team to promote effective team functioning; actively seeks feedback and coaching to improve customer experience.
9. Contributes to the customer experience goals as evidenced by positive patient experience scores/comments and/or other written compliments
10. May have access to rooms that contain IV solutions, authorized medications and supplies as needed for patient care responsibilities
11. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals (i.e. use of 2 patient identifiers) when accessing patient information and in performing job duties
12. Demonstrates personal accountability in economically using and caring for equipment and supplies
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Education:
o Current enrollment in an RN or LPN program with successful completion of hands-on clinical coursework.
o May remain in Nurse Tech role up to one (1) year after graduation from LPN/RN professional nursing program, until ATT (Authorization to Test) is received and/or NCLEX is failed twice
• Certification: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider prior to start and maintain
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
o Must meet unit-specific care requirements
o Must be able to flex-up hours during first 90 days to complete orientation and then work 12 hours every 30 days
o Ability to speak and understand verbal and written instructions in the English language
o Ability to focus and prioritize multiple activities
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Moderate
• Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crouching frequently
• Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance
• May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or over head
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to loud noise
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks
• Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle
