Job Title:Nurse AssistantWage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Assist with clerical, first aid, and healthcare tasks under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse in assigned schools.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- CPR/AED certification to be successfully completed within the first week of employment
- Department of State Health Services certifications for vision, hearing, spinal screening, and acanthosis nigricans to be successfully completed within the first year of employment
Special Knowledge /Skills/Qualifications
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Basic typing, computer, and data entry skills preferred
- Must provide own transportation
Minimum Experience
- Some experience in health care preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assists the registered nurse in maintaining an efficient, safe, and healthy clinic environment.
- Provides basic first aid and emergency care according to district policies and procedures.
- Assists the registered nurse with communicable disease prevention and control programs, including but not limited to, recording immunizations and screening for skin/scalp conditions.
- Performs selected health screening activities.
- Dispenses prescribed medications and performs specified treatments according to district policies and procedures.
- Records selected student health information and keeps accurate monthly reports
- Shares appropriate health information with the nurse and maintains confidentiality.
- Informs the nurse of requests or needs for health counseling and health education.
- Assists the registered nurse with ordering and maintaining adequate clinic supplies for a campus.
- Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals;standard instructional equipment
- Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Frequent walking
- Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
- Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
- Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
