Join us for a 7-week paid internship where you will earn your North Carolina Nurse Aide Certification. Upon completion of this 7-week course, and successful completion of the NC state exam, you will be placed into a full time Nurse Aide role with Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.


Class is in person in Wilmington, North Carolina, Monday through Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM. No remote or Zoom options available for this course. Full details below:


Application is open from May 1st to June 2nd. Initial interviews for selected candidates will be scheduled in June.

Applicant Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • North Carolina Driver's License - with current address
  • Reliable transportation

Class Dates: July 17th – August 31st

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm

Location: Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401

Rate of pay (while in course) $12.50 per hour paid biweekly via direct deposit every other Friday. Pay will increase to $16.50 upon starting the Nurse Aide role.

Sign on Bonus: After successful completion of training program and NC Nurse Aide Certification exam: $1000 with two-year work commitment

We proudly serve patients and families in private homes, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and our care centers located in Wilmington, Bolivia, and Whiteville, North Carolina. JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Aide I Student trains under the supervision of the Nurse Aide I Program Coordinator/Instructor to train for a variety of basic patient care activities to meet program curriculum for the state of NC and to meet personal needs and comfort to patients. Care is based on Nurse Aide Student level of registration and agency policies and procedures. The patient population can include newborns through geriatric patients. The Nurse Aide Student will attend the 157 hours NA I Training Program which consists of 57 hours classroom, 60 hours lab, and 40 hours clinical. The Nurse Aide Student will work independently on homework assignments, study sessions, and sim lab skills practices outside of curriculum hours. Performs other duties as assigned.


PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  1. Competently performs a variety of basic patient care activities under the supervision of the NA I Program Coordinator/Instructor to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients. Nurse Aide Student supervision must include following the Plan of Care, task competency, compliance with infection control and reporting changes in patient condition.
  2. Appropriately documents and communicates all required information in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  3. Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently.
  4. Maintains and adjusts schedule to enhance team performance.
  5. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with all members of the team.
  6. Maintains and promotes customer satisfaction.
  7. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on a daily basis.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Required for exam: NC Driver’s License and Social Security Card with matching identical name prior to start of class.
  3. Licensure / Certifications: Current enrollment in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare NA I Training Program to obtain certification in the state of NC.
  4. Experience: None required.
  5. Essential Technical / Motor Skills: Must be able to demonstrate sufficient dexterity to take patient’s vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, etc.) and to measure patient intake and output. Ability to speak clearly for patient communication. Must be able to communicate and be literate in the English language.
  6. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop positive interaction with patients, families, physicians and staff to effectively care for the patients.
  7. Essential Physical Requirements: Assisting patients with activities of daily living that require pushing, moving, or lifting. Positioning of patients, giving patient’s bath, ambulating patients requires much physical effort. Must be able to use proper body mechanics to lift at least 45 pounds. Ability to drive an automobile.
  8. Essential Mental Abilities: The ability to follow detailed and diverse instructions for assisting several patients in the daily living routine requires long and short-term memory. Ability to perform duties without on-sight supervision.
  9. Essential Sensory Requirements: Must be able to visually assess patients. Utilize sight for documenting and ambulating patients. Utilize hearing to take blood pressures and effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  10. Exposure to Hazards: Frequent exposure to blood and body fluids, infectious diseases, needle puncture wounds. May be exposed to dangerous animals and traffic hazards while home visiting. May encounter patients and other situations that present a potential threat to personal safety. May encounter temperature changes and weather extremes.
  11. Other - Hours of Attendance/Work: Must attend 90% of class meetings, this refers to lecture portion of class. A max of 5 hours may be missed. Time absent beyond these hours may result in immediate dismissal from the class and student position with agency. There is an additional lab and clinical portion. Any lab time missed must be made up at the primary instructor’s discretion. Only one clinical day can be missed, however, the clinical day must be made up on a day designated by the primary instructor so that all required clinical time is met. If the student is going to miss clinical, they need to alert the primary clinical instructor ahead of time. If lab or clinical are missed, the student should alert the instructor immediately. The student is responsible for any missed content. 100 percent of attendance is required. (Documented emergency situations will be reviewed by the Program Coordinator/Instructor on a case by case basis.) The Nurse Aide Student will attend the 157 hours NA I Training Program which consists of 57 hours classroom, 60 hours lab, and 40 hours clinical. The Nurse Aide Student will work independently on homework assignments, study sessions, and sim lab skills practices outside of curriculum hours to meet a 32 hour work week per agency requirement.
  12. Population Served: All patient populations from infants through geriatric with life limiting illness.
  13. Driving: Will be required to drive. Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation. Will be required to sign a release authorizing HR to check DMV records every three years. Will be subject to the Safe Driver Policy.
