Monday & Tuesday: PART-TIME 7:00AM-3:00PM
- Calculates amount of activity to be administered following written directives.
- Observes prescribed radiation safety procedures during the preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Verifies patient’s identity by two methods. If childbearing female, records whether patient is pregnant or breast-feeding. Verifies presence of physician order and pertinent clinical information.
- Administers the dose of radiopharmaceuticals either intravenously, orally, or by inhalation.
- Notifies the Radiation Safety Officer in the event of a spill, misadministration, or deviation of practice from the Radiation Safety Program.
- Uses techniques that will minimize radiation exposure to the patient, general public and health care personnel consistent with the ALARA concept.
- Recognizes change in patient status and appropriately communicates to the nurse and/or patient’s physician.
- Performs quality control procedures on al instruments to ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
- Adds to the current NCDENR license new radiologist, physicians or amendments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Maintains compliance with DEHNR and conditions stated in Radioactive Materials license.
- Follows regulations regarding surveys and wipe tests, recording data in appropriate format.
- Instructs other personnel about radiation hazards and principles of radiation safety.
- Explains the nature of the test in detail to the patient and/or family member in order to alleviate fears and anxieties associated with the equipment and procedures; is genuinely responsive to patient’s concerns.
- Participates in performance improvement efforts, by improving own performance, seeking opportunities for improvement and participating in teams, committees or task forces.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures involved in operation of gamma cameras, A/P computers uptake probe, and well counter.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Program.
2. Registered by ARRT-N or CNMTB.
3. CPR certification required.
4. One to Two years experience.
