The Air Force Research Laboratory's Atomic Long-range Systems Branch (AFRL/RVBN) seeks a highly motivated and experienced mid-career professional to lead nuclear weapons effects Modeling and Simulation efforts in support of enduring nuclear deterrence capabilities.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:

• Lead the development and execution of nuclear weapon effect Modeling and Simulation efforts supporting current and future nuclear systems.
• Develop and/or reconstitute modeling capabilities of prompt and delayed nuclear effects [e.g. electromagnetic pulse (EMP), electromagnetic interference (EMI), X-Ray, gamma, neutron, thermal radiation, blast, gust, ground shock, ejecta] on mission-critical components, sub-systems, and systems.
• Corroborate with warfighters and stakeholders to identify and characterize future nuclear threats and threat scenarios.
• Conduct comprehensive analyses and trade-off studies to assess system performance, identify vulnerabilities, ensure systems survivability and effectiveness under normal and abnormal environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and specifications for nuclear systems.
• Advise on nuclear effects testing gaps and strategies to reconstitute testing capabilities for M&S validation and verification.
• Present Modeling and Simulation findings, reports, and recommendations to Nuclear Enterprise partners and stakeholders.
• Advise on development of Nuclear Environments, and nuclear hardness and survivability MIL-Standards.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and analysts to grow future nuclear expertise.

Required Qualifications

• US Citizenship
• Bachelor's degree in nuclear physics or engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of relevant experience in Nuclear Environments and effects modeling, simulation, and assessment that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for this position in our organization.
• Candidate must show strong background in understanding of nuclear weapons design, outputs, as well as nuclear weapons effects phenomena.
• Strong background in radiation effect on electronics.
• Proficiency in simulation software and tools, e.g. Monte Carlo N-Particle Transport (MCNP), Rad CTH.
• Strong project management and leadership skills
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
• Applicants must currently hold, or have the ability to obtain, a DOD TS/SCI clearance.

Desired Qualifications

• Master's or PhD degree in nuclear physics or engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is highly desired
• 7+ years of relevant experience in Nuclear Environments and effects modeling, simulation and assessment
• Knowledge of Nuclear Command, Control and Communications, (NC3) systems architecture
• Knowledge of US Nuclear Deterrent structure and USSTRATCOM mission
• Understanding foreign nuclear and conventional threats
