DESCRIPTION

The Department of Urology provides the highest quality urologic care, research, and education. The Department provides general urologic and subspecialty care in urology oncology, infertility and andrology, pelvic medicine and voiding dysfunction, urinary stone disease and endourology, reconstructive urology and urologic trauma and pediatric urology. The urology clinical program consists of over 30 faculty members/MSP physicians, 5 fellows, 15 residents, 9 APPs and conducts ambulatory outpatient care in 9 clinical sites.

UC San Diego Health’s Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Center is a joint venture between Urology and Gynecology, providing care in the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery specialty. The UPRS currently consists of 7 surgeons (4 Gynecologists and 3 Urologists) and 2 Advanced Practice Providers. Primary location is in La Jolla at the Chancellor Park clinic; however, providers also see patients in Hillcrest, Encinitas and Rancho Bernardo.

Under the direction of Urologic and Gynecologic Surgeons, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is passionate about providing excellent, compassionate care to female patients with disorders of sexual function and sexual pain as part of UPRS. Outpatient responsibilities include independent evaluation and management of Female Sexual Dysfunction diagnoses including but not limited to genitourinary syndrome of menopause, vulvodynia, pelvic floor dysfunction, disorders of sexual desire, female orgasmic disorders, and genito-pelvic dysesthesia. Prioritize and resolve issues, escalating to physicians as appropriate. Manage and document all communications in the electronic medical record system. Serve as a centerpiece of the non-surgical management of patients with Female Sexual Dysfunction. Work collaboratively with APPs currently in the practice. Additional duties as assigned. Work location will be divided between campuses (La Jolla, Hillcrest, North County, East Campus).

Assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, incumbents perform operational level duties as described in the Series Concept. The major emphasis at this level is ongoing direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs participation in program planning and development of patient education information.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the NPI or NPII level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.

  • Three (3) years of ambulatory urology experience as an RN.

  • Must have advanced training in the area of Female Sexual Dysfunction (must be evident in resume).

  • Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics.

  • Knowledge of common urologic problems and treatments.

  • Skill in telephone interviewing of patients to efficiently retrieve accurate information.

  • Ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.

  • Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician in-charge and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.

  • Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the health care team.

  • Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.

  • Knowledge necessary for instructing house staff, medical students, physicians, nurses and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.

  • Strong emphasis on the complete care of the patient; demonstrate excellent communication skills, involving the physicians, resident team, nursing staff, family and all other relevant team members to provide excellent comprehensive care.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be willing to work flexible, variable hours with the ability to change schedule on short notice.

  • May require occasional evening and weekend hours beyond the normal workday.

  • Must be willing to be flexible regarding work site within San Diego County.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
  • Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $154,992 - $154,992 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $74.23 - $74.23

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
