Position Title: Night Shift Agriculture Maintenance Trainee

SUMMARY

Entry-levelposition within the Agriculture department assisting mechanics with the installation, repair, and troubleshooting of raw receiving machinery and equipment while learning the basic use of hand tools and shop tools.  The Agriculture Mechanic Trainee will be introduced to performing structurally sound welds, acceptable metal cutting techniques using appropriate welding equipment. As competence is gained, increased accountability of work assignments and degree of difficulty will follow. Learning to troubleshoot and maintain raw receiving machinery are the principle activities of the position.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
  • Learns to perform maintenance work as directed by the Agriculture Mechanic Supervisor or the shift Lead Mechanic to assist with repair and adjustment of raw receiving equipment; changing and replacing belts, sprockets, bearings, chains, motors tc. while following proper safety practices.
  • Assists in the diagnosis of malfunctioning apparatus such as gearboxes, motors, and shaft bearings and replacement of damaged or broken components.
  • Performs all tasks with safety procedures for self and others in mind.
  • Serves as a Team Player assisting other mechanics to carry out duties.
  • Listens to others to receive training in the department in areas such as pump repair, bearing replacement and gear drive repair
  • Assists with workload while following instructions and assisting with replacement of faulty mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components of machines and equipment.
  • Assist in repair and adjustment of Ag World grading lab equipment.
  • Demonstrates comfort with work in a team environment.
  • Works in a safe manner and utilizes personal protective equipment and observes safety policies such as Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to ensure personal and the safety of others.
  • Assists with basic carpentry as needed to support the department.
  • Learns to operate a forklift and scissor-lift.
  • Learns and practices welding functions, including Stick, Tig, and Mig.
  • Learns to identify raw receiving line operational inefficiencies and suggests improvements.
  • Communicates problems or changes in department to supervisor and appropriate personnel.
  • Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
  • Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
  • Keeps area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  • Helps to build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
  • Participates in continuous improvement process.
  • Must adhere to the McCain Code of Conduct.
  • The employee may be required to successfully complete the orientation and training provided during the first ninety- (90) days of employment.
  • All other duties determined by management.

  • Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.
  • Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.
  • Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

High School diploma or GED; and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals to select appropriate information, identify basic concepts, relevant details, facts, and specifications to follow instructions.  Ability to write information-recording data accurately and completely on forms/surveys/computer text entries and prepare messages or simple documents.  Ability to speak effectively to express appropriate verbal/nonverbal messages, explain concepts, and actively participate in discussion.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Ability to perform basic math operations of addition, subtraction.  Understand and work with fractions and decimals to make settings, select machine drive components and correctly size tools.  Ability to apply math concepts to basic fabrication tasks, record numerical data, obtain data, perform measurements, and interpret numerical data.

 

REASONING ABILITY

 

Ability to apply common sense to identify facts and principles, identify problems, apply rules/principles to process procedures, extract information/data, and use logic to draw conclusions.

 

CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

 

  • Valid State Driver’s License if operating company vehicles.
  • Valid McCain Foods Forklift Operator’s License. 
  • Must have supply of Lock Out Tag Out identification cards.
