Night Sanitation Supervisor

Reports to

Production Manager

Department:

Sanitation

Job Summary:

The Night Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for directing all activities associated with the sanitation operation. The Night Sanitation Supervisor will help set and then ensure the continued effectiveness of Best Sanitation Practices and Procedures. This is a hands-on role and the Sanitation Supervisor is expected to participate in the undertaking of the sanitation activities as well as oversees sanitation function to ensure compliance with all Company, industry, quality management programs and food safety systems. Ensuring the plant is always audit ready.

Direct Reports include:

  • 3-4 Sanitation Technicians

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the Sanitation team in the effective delivery of the sanitation schedule.
  • Responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, documentation, training, and on-going improvement of the sanitation program in support of the plant's Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification.
  • Develop and implement new methods, procedures, and systems to improve sanitation performance and utilize new technology and processes to maximize efficiency.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and operated according to established sanitary and housekeeping standards, to the highest efficiency necessary.
  • Coach and motivate all plant employees in pursuit of sanitation excellence and plant safety.
  • Conduct training sessions for the department employees as needed and ensure training and transfer of knowledge to team members. Broaden sanitation skill sets to operations and maintenance teams as necessary.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
  • Schedule adequate staffing to ensure sanitation operations are complete on a timely basis.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety and Food Safety policies, regulations, and principles are followed and adhered to.
  • Communicate with management on sanitation concerns and actively make recommendations for changes in equipment, plant layout, or work practices to improve sanitation standards.
  • Use initiative to find and correct non-complaint sanitation issues.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels for cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough sanitation records.
  • Ensure timely completion of sanitation department goals and action plans both short and long term.
  • Assemble and disassemble equipment as necessary to prescribed SSOP.
  • Employees must be able to work with a variety of chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Train and orient new staff in the specific functions and tasks of their job, as well as all Health and Safety Practices and procedures.
  • Promote and comply with Stiebrs Farms Health and Safety policies and procedures including the wearing of PPE, Lockout, etc.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years direct experience in food plant sanitation activities
  • At least 2 years’ experience managing a team preferably in food sanitation, Quality Assurance, or Production.
  • Working knowledge of food plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRC, food safety, food quality, etc.
  • An understanding of pathogens and other food contaminants is required as well as an understanding of various sanitation chemicals and physical cleaning.
  • Leadership competencies that lead and inspire others – drives for exceptional results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to forward think in critical situations is a must.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Training skills are required.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, pivot turn and bend while performing tasks.
  • Must be able to lift, push and or carry up 50 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time and do repetitive tasks.
  • Must have the ability to see and handle products, machinery, and hand tools.

Working Environment

-Regularly exposed to allergens such as eggs.

-Facility may incur extreme temperature variation and other hazards as incurred in the food manufacturing and packaging process.

-Constantly exposed to wet conditions including slippery Floors

-Requires wearing company provided PPE: hairnet/beard net/smock, etc.
