Job description

The primary duties of a Night Crew Yard Worker include, but are not limited to, pulling and staging orders for delivery trucks. A Night Crew Yard Worker will handle all of our products. Material is stored on a twenty-three-acre parcel in Fresno.

A Night Crew employee will use a propane torch to cut various types of material. A Night Crew employee will operate a forklift and an overhead crane. They will pull and stage steel and aluminum products onto vehicles. They may be required to sweep, do general yard or equipment clean-up.

Valley Iron is a Family-owned business and may ask all employees to work in different departments at any time. The duties in this job description may not cover every duty that will be asked of you. All employees may be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Guaranteed Hours: 2PM – 11PM Monday – Friday

$2.50 Night shift differential pay per hour and sign on bonus.

Pay Rage $20.50-$29.50

Minimum Qualifications

  • Read/Write English Language
  • Be able to measure using Caliper/tape measurer.
  • Have a Valid California Driver’s License
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately pull Material for delivery
  • Maintain Forklift on a daily basis.
  • Load all material on a Flatbed truck
  • Comply with all safety guidelines
  • Wrap/package all material

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

For the purposes of this job analysis/description, the physical requirements for a Night Crew Yard worker are rated on a percentage per workday basis. References are made according to the following terms:

Continuous 80 - 100%

A. Standing/Walking

Continuous (80-100%) during the workday. This job involves standing or walking throughout most of the workday on a concrete surface. While standing/walking, Night Crew Yard Worker will perform such functions as pulling orders from steel racks, using a propane torch or abrasive saw to cut product into various sizes. These activities are frequently done in conjunction with pushing, pulling, bending and twisting movements while handling products.

B. Sitting

Night Crew Yard Worker will seldom (1-19%) sit during the day while performing most job functions. Sitting will be done when operating a forklift.

C. Lifting/Carrying

Lifting and carrying are done frequently (40-79%) during the workday. Night Crew Yard Worker will handle steel products weighing an average of between 15 to 50 pounds. Night Crew Yard Worker will frequently carry items up to 200 feet when placing products in vehicles, company trucks or on forklifts.

Occasionally (20-39%) it may be necessary to move items weighing 80 to 100 pounds. A forklift is used for items weighing over 50 pounds. Most products are 20 feet in length and can be awkward for one individual to handle. All Night Crew Yard Workers are required to perform lifting/carrying activities.

D. Pushing/Pulling

A frequent part of the workday. Approximately 40% to 79% of the workday will be involved in these movements when stocking material or removing product from racks up to eight feet high. These activities are done in conjunction with bending and twisting movements when handling supplies. Because of the length and weight involved in much of the steel products, two people are used to handle items at times. When working alone, the worker would generally pick up one end of the product(s) when removing items from the rack to be placed on a forklift or vehicle.

Pushing and pulling activities involving weights of between 15 and 50 pounds is done off and on throughout the workday. Because of the length of most products, it is customary to lift one part of the total weight when handling items.

E. Climbing

Night Crew Yard Worker will climb on and off a forklift frequently (40-79%) during the day. On a rare occasion, he/she may climb onto a truck bed to place purchased material. There is seldom (1-19%) climbing in this position due to having to climb onto the truck to verify material and usage of crane inside warehouse buildings.

F. Reaching

A continuous (80-100%) part of the workday. Both hands will be utilized whenever handling material. This activity will be done off and on throughout the workday when handling steel products located on steel racks which are seventy eight- and one-half inches in height. This activity is done in conjunction with twisting and bending movements whenever handling products.

G. Torso Rotation

Proper body mechanics will allow for seldom (1-19%) of torso rotation throughout the workday. The Night Crew Yard Worker will seldom be rotating his/her torso from both right to left and vice versa whenever reaching for product stored on steel racks. Frequent (40-90%) bending at the knees will be done throughout the workday whenever handling products below waist level.

H. Foot Movements

The Night Crew Yard Worker will be involved in standing and walking activities throughout much of the workday (80-100%) when obtaining product kept over the seven-acre parcel in Vacaville and twenty-three-acre parcel in Fresno. He/she will be involved in using both feet for brake and gas pedals while operating a forklift.

I. Handling/Grasping

Handling and Grasping is required when handling unfabricated steel and pipe products. Both hands are used continuously (80-100%) throughout much of the workday when handling products, pulling material and placing orders on company trucks. Handling and Grasping of both hands, wrists and forearms is required while in the performance of his/her regular duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

l. Inside/Outside:

Performs his/her work outside and under a steel roofed area which is exposed to the outside elements.

2. Temperatures:

Exposed to extreme outside weather changes at all times.

3. Terrain:

Walks on level surface consisting of concrete, blacktop and dirt a seven-acre parcel in Vacaville and twenty-three-acre parcel in Fresno.

4. Dust:

Some exposure to dust is to be expected during windy days.
