Newspage designer

The Beckley Register-Herald, an award-winning newspaper and multimedia platform for local news, features, sports, advertising and marketing, is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, full-time designer to work in a design center in Beckley, W.Va.

Primary duties for this position include layout, design and pagination of The Register-Herald and its various magazines and special sections. If you have visual and artistic skills, if you show respect for typography, if you have a command of grammar and can do some writing (primarily headlines and captions), if you are coachable and are eager to learn and grow in the job, if you are comfortable working on desktop publication software, this is going to be a great fit for you. If you have never designed a newspaper page before, do not let that stop you from applying. Our last three design hires were in the same boat and they have turned out great.

Successful candidates must be self starters, motivated, collegial and professional who work well with other creative types on deadline. We prefer a college degree in graphic design, communications, journalism or a related field. Experience with InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, video and multimedia is a big plus. We work on Macs.

This is a full-time position on a terrific team.

We offer a competitive benefits package. Work shifts run Monday-Friday, 3-11 p.m. No weekends.

The design center is located in the largest city in southern West Virginia which serves as a gateway to the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. This is an outdoor mecca with numerous trails for riding, mountain biking, and hiking, as well as state parks and water recreation. The design center also manages the production of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph which along with The Register-Herald is owned by CNHI LLC of Montgomery, Ala.
