Job Summary/Description:
The News Supervising Producer manages and coordinates the creation and execution of the weekday 6.5-hour Good Day Oregon newscasts. This position provides editorial and production direction to producers and field crews on story content, crafting rundowns, and managing breaking news. The News Supervising Producer is responsible for raising the production level of the show by coordinating the efforts of anchors, reporters, editors, and other staff to attract the largest available audience to the station's profitable newscasts.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- 40% Previews and proofreads news material before airing. Supervises producers in writing, rundown creation and crafting, and developing newscast elements,
- 20% Coordinates breaking news, big story coverage, and daily story selection for field crews, anchors, and other newscast contributors.
- 20% Works with producers to raise the production level of newscasts by creating compelling graphic and preproduction elements, pushing urgency in writing and producing, and constantly evolving and improving the look and execution of newscasts.
- 10% Coordinates with the creative services department to develop effective promotions for upcoming shows, newscasts, and events.
- 10% Fills in to produce newscasts when necessary.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Education -
- Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of two years producing newscasts for a television or cable station. Supervisory experience preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -
- Experience using ENPS internet production tools, MS Office strongly preferred.
- Must possess an advanced understanding of newscast presentation.
- Must possess excellent writing and graphics skills with the ability to provide an interesting and substantive product.
- Must be results-oriented.
- Ability to focus on coordination of daily and long-range segments from first contact to on-air products.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure.
