Do you have any experience with laboratory testing? Do you want to make a difference in public health? If this is you, then The Utah Public Health Laboratory (UPHL) needs you as a Newborn Screening Laboratory Scientist. In this role you will perform biochemical and molecular Newborn Screening testing. UPHL is CLIA certified. You will need to meet the CLIA requirements (found HERE) to work in this position.

- To qualify for this position, you MUST meet CLIA requirements. These requirements can be found HERE.
- Familiarization with the screening assay methodologies such as LC-MS/MS, real time PCR, IEF gels, NGS, immuno assay and colorimetric assay.
- Managing inventory control.
- Maintaining general lab organization and cleanliness.
- Maintaining instruments and equipment.
- Punching blood spots using a high throughput punching equipment.
- Documenting all activities to meet CLIA requirements.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis following appropriate guidelines and procedures
- Analyze and test newborn dried blood spots.
- Review results for mass spectrometry, HPLC, hemoglobin variants by IEF, real-time PCR and DELFIA-based assays.
- Review and/or inspect work for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
- Read and stay current with all laboratory SOPs.
- Any other duties as required.
- Meets CLIA testing personnel qualifications (click HERE to review the standard qualifications)
- Has experience with mass spectrometry, biochemical, and/or molecular clinical testing applications
- Is motivated
- Has a high attention to detail
- Can support high-throughput testing
- Can read and understand technical writings and apply acquired knowledge

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off:
Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
