New Product Engineer – New Star Lighting
Company Overview: New Star Lighting is a leading private light manufacturer based in Chicago with over 30 years of industry experience. We specialize in innovative luminaires, producing high-quality, custom-made products for various sectors, including correctional, healthcare, cleanroom, transportation, commercial, and high-abuse environments. The company is currently growing and seeking a New Product design engineer to join its expanding engineering team, focusing on designing and developing New Products with cost-effective solutions.
Position Overview:
As a New Product Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and launch of New Products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, test, and bring innovative products to market.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of New Products from concept to prototype to production.
- Perform testing and validation to ensure product performance and reliability.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses for New Product initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, purchasing, and manufacturing to ensure seamless product integration.
- Lead and contribute to continuous improvement, technology initiatives, and process optimization.
- Provide support to the BOMs team for product database management.
- Assist with production, sales, customer service, and purchasing teams with New Product inquiry information.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of proven experience in lighting product design, including proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Familiar with lighting standards and regulations (e.g., UL 1598, LM-79, DLC)
- Must perform well under pressure and possess problem-solving skills as issues arise in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiar with LED lighting technology and light fixture controls.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and organizing work.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship. Candidates should live within 50 miles of Chicago and have reliable means of transportation. New Star Lighting is an essential employer.
