Network Operations Center Engineer

UFG is currently seeking a Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer who will analyze, control, and respond to the operation of the mainframe hardware and software. The operator starts and stops system tasks, analyzes the system consoles for unusual conditions, and works with the system programming and production control staff to ensure the health and normal operation of the systems. The NOC Engineer will mentor and lead training of NOC Technicians and Administrators.  The operator will deploy applications via automation and otherwise.

Responsibilities: 

• Act as a mentor and point of contact for Operations staff.
• Lead Training/cross training of operations staff on various shifts.
• Operates and maintains Unisys mainframe, peripherals, and loads required media (tapes, paper, etc.) as required or needed.
• Monitor Online Environments, troubleshoot and develop and deploy fixes as needed.
• Analyzes infrastructure, application, and network monitoring tools
• Monitors the data center operations and resolves system issues/failures or disseminate accordingly.
• Ensure that balancing forms are completed and verified prior to allowing dependent jobs to process.
• Follow-up with programming staff / vendors when balancing anomalies occur.
• Follow instructions given by development staff to process tests.
• Oversee the creation and maintaining of audit documentation and reports for Information Technology department.
• Ensures team audit procedure best practices are being administered.
• Create and maintain Work Schedules and Logs.
• Analyzes the control console and responds to operating and computer messages while ensuring that production tasks are run in the proper sequence.
• Ensure that balancing forms are completed and verified prior to allowing dependent jobs to process.
• Ensure that all backup jobs have completed successfully.
• Review tape movement reports to ensure backups are handled appropriately and stored in the proper locations.
• Update work schedules and BL/Sched scheduling software as new processes are added, or changes are made to existing job requirements.
• Maintain Tape Library.
• Develop, test, and modify automation WFL jobs.
• Deploy applications via automation with configuration management tools.
• Analyzes problems/issues and accurately communicates with the development staff. Partners with developer to resolve problems/issues.
• Communicate with equipment vendors and support centers to facilitate getting repairs completed in a timely manner.
• Aids the development process by assisting the development staff test and debug new programs and/or procedures.

Qualifications: 

Education: 

• High School degree or equivalent.
• Associate Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

Experience: 

• 7+ years of computer operations, or other computer experience.
