Overview
We are seeking a full-time .NET Software Engineer in our Cary, NC or Yarmouth, ME location. (It is required that you currently reside in the area). We have openings on two different teams, please read the descriptions below for more information.
inReach Technologies Team:
In this role, you will work with the latest version of .NET, test with cutting-edge Garmin devices, send messages through satellites, use modern CI/CD tools to support a web application architecture in our multi-cloud environment.
Every day our emergency response software helps coordinate rescues for hikers, boaters, adventurers, motorists and pilots. Our satellite-based communication InReach devices ensure that these people stay in contact with emergency services and communicate with their loved ones from anywhere on the globe. Services Team:
Our team provides services for all Garmin segments using the latest versions of .NET with modern CI/CD tools, SQL Server and cloud architectures. Work with engineers on architectural design and solving complex problems while supporting our existing code base.
The work our team enables ranges from Emergency Auto Land for aircraft, providing premium Outdoor Maps, working with inReach devices, providing Search and Rescue Insurance, Marine Charts and Maps to helping users improve their golf game.
Essential Functions
  • Creates and executes designs for small sets of new functionalities as part of a software project using C# or other selected languages
  • Utilizes Software Engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process
  • May perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software project
  • Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
  • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
  • Contributes to technical research on new technologies
  • Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology, offers suggestions to improve processes, and provides feedback on some electrical design aspects
  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced Software Engineers (Software Engineer 1)
  • Supports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin's 24/7 operations

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C#
  • Proficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant Software Engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience with web APIs, Entity Framework and RDBMS
