Natural Resources Specialist

This position is with the Sitka Ranger District in Sitka, Alaska
Serves as the Integrated Resources staff assistant to the District Ranger with responsibilities for planning/development, programming, implementation and administration of multiple resources.

Basic Requirement:
GS-0401:

1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

   or

2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-09 grade level in the Federal service defined as performing two of the following:

• Conducted long and short-term studies and investigations on natural resource uses;
• Coordinated surveys and monitored, compiled, and analyzed biological data;
• Developed baseline information on birds, fish, and small animal habitat, growth limitations, and feeding requirements; OR
• Balanced competing public and private goals for recreational and commercial development and natural resource conservation.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
