JOB DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to perform a wide range of duties including park landscape installation; woodland restoration; and routine maintenance of landscaped and natural park areas, pruning, mulching, seeding, weeding, watering, trimming, planting, strawing and cultural practices necessary to provide well-managed park landscapes.
- Assists with implementing, maintaining and restoring of various types of natural landscapes within the parks system. Areas include forests, wetlands, prairies and wildlife food plots.
- Responsible for applying herbicides, fungicides and insecticides; pruning trees, shrubs; planting and maintaining trees and shrubs as well as performing other maintenance practices as needed to sustain healthy landscapes.
- Performs a wide range of duties such as: operating tractors and equipment with various implements including seed planters, front loaders, landscape rakes, augers, sprayers, and brush hogs.
- Uses numerous hand tools including shovels, rakes, chainsaws, pruners and shears.
- Supervises volunteers and workdays. Conducts outdoor classroom maintenance and training.
- Provides public outreach and education.
- May be periodically required to assist in Park Programming and activities outside of normal job duties and hours.
- Assists with the installation and maintenance of ornamental landscape beds and planters and assist in park construction and maintenance projects when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- General/technical high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brake certification or obtain one within six months of employment.
- 2-3 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of two (2) year directly involved with forestry or landscape maintenance. An equal combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered.
